To be horrified at how I look

Just asked my mum to take a pic of me from the back and side, for bra measuring.
Horrified. I've been in SW on and off for a few years, need to go back. I've already decided I'm having a dry january and it needs to continue. I'm 43 in May and want to feel and look content.

Echo thoughts on here, have been pigging out over the holiday period, but have found success prior to Christmas on the 16-8 way of eating, DH has too. No faddy foods, etc, just sensible eating most of the time and we have both lost without really trying - we have 3 st to lose between us. Give it a go - similar to 5-2 but much easier x

CaveMum · 03/01/2018 20:28

There’s a really interesting tv programme called The Truth About Slim People on More 4 at 9pm tonight.

It was on a few months ago and gave a really good insight into not just what slim people eat but the way in which they eat too. Definitely worth a watch if you can, or record and catch up later.

spatchcock · 03/01/2018 20:29

"At first it was vanity - I hated how I had ended up looking. But now I'm thinking health - heart disease, diabetes etc etc. If I don't stop NOW, when will I?????"

Yeah, me too. Only with me it's joint pain, which has appeared in the last few months. I'm not at my biggest, but I think it's just getting older. So it really is time to do something before I end up with permanently screwed up joints.

Babess · 03/01/2018 20:46

Embarrassed cannot even begin to describe it. I work from home and it feels am constantly working with no time for excercise. I think about it a lot but the motivation is a distant memory. Don’t even know how to start. I just want to bend down without almost passing out. Any recommendations for a slimming tea to get started?....

Babess · 03/01/2018 20:50

Saw that one...lol. They even recommended taking a slim persons poop in pill form. Apparently has the type of bacteria fatter people lack... this is where I draw the line. I’d rather do slimming world...lol

I joined WeightWatchers last night, so I am determined to do this once and for all. I need to lose at least 3 stone. Am 5’6” and weigh 14st 13.5 lbs! Was mortified when I had to buy a size 20 dress for a friend’s wedding a few months ago. I’m finding it hard to even cross my legs, my legs have got so fat. I am fed up of my bras being so uncomfortable due to the size and weight of my boobs (36 H), the band needs to be quite tight so it doesn’t ride up, so the edges of the sides of the bra curl over and dig into me due to all the back fat they just cannot lie flat. Am hoping some of the weight will come off my boobs as well as everywhere else. Fed up of being out of puff just walking upstairs. Got our summer holiday booked for July so really want to feel confident and better in myself.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 03/01/2018 22:16

Can I join in?? 43, weeble shaped and hating it! Used to be a size 12 and could lose weight fairly easily. Always had small boobs, ok stomach, but good and thighs. Then BAM! Turned 40, suddenly developed huge belly and boobs!!
Used to be a gym bunny, but work/ gym schedule means I haven't been regularly in last two years. However! Got a treadmill for my Christmas and we have turned our garage into a gym- have a spin bike and a tv down there, and I've subscribed to Let Mills on demand so I can do all my classes (combat was always my favourite) without having to impose my horrific blobby body on other people. My lovely skinny dds (14 and 12) are going to do it with me to keep me motivated.
Goes without saying I need to cut out all the crap too. Work and home have just been bursting with chocolate, cakes and yummy good recently, but I will be strong despite having carrot cake for breakfast this morning

Ginburee · 03/01/2018 22:33

Thank you cakeninja- I have taken a little gin and forsee many tomorrow. Xx

CaveMum · 03/01/2018 22:38

I think the key hung to remember is that losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. You can do all the exercise you like but if you’re not eating the right things/the right way it won’t make much difference.

This evening I’ve boxed up all the left over mince pies, half a stollen and two-thirds of a Yule Log to take into work tomorrow. I can’t bear the waste of throwing it away but if I keep it in the house i’ll Feel obliged to eat it before it goes out of date Blush

ShoesHaveSouls · 03/01/2018 22:52

I think I'm going to print giant-red-tomato-dress photo and put it on my fridge.

I was thin(ish) (ie.constantly dieting!) during most of 2016 - and I just had a peek at the holiday pics from that year - and my God! - the difference! I just look so much better. No moon face or double chin. No stomach hanging out even though it looked ok sucked in when I got dressed

As pp said - it's not just about looks, it's about health as well. I've had a good day today - I'm trying to be sensible and not fall into the 'starve yourself for faster results' trap - because I always seem to pile it all back on again.

caringcarer · 03/01/2018 22:55

We have all been ill over Xmas and new year this means hardly any nice Xmas food got eaten. I asked for gym membership for Xmas as so badly need to lose weight bit I have little will power. I an 7 kg heavier than I was in July.

Hmmm..I might still be slim, but there's a definite half century sag on my bones. Photos make me recoil in horror. No matter how much or how little we have, I guess it all heads south in the end Grin

SummatFishyEre · 04/01/2018 07:31

I've been dieting on and off and obsessing about my weight for years and I'm now heavier than I've ever been. Ah well. On we go again! Slimming world principles but with less sugary crap and when I've lost a bit of weight I'll go back to my exercise class

iloveeverykindofcat · 04/01/2018 08:09

Can I ask something? Has anyone ever found a way to lose weight that doesn't involve hunger? I frequently see these advertised but the sad truth is that in 30 years I've never been able to lose weight without going hungry. It seems to me that this is common sense - hunger is the feeling of fat being burned, right? Or am I suffering needlessly?

DontDriveLikeATwat · 04/01/2018 08:22

Iloveeverykindofcat maybe try reading the article I posted to up ^. It is about hunger/feelings of being full. Since I kind of "recalibrated" my brain - and therefore how much I eat - I will confess to maybe feeling "hunger" more - but I kind of relish it - rather than dislike it. Hmm...that doesn't sound quite right or appealing. I think it is because I am beginning to recognise the reality of how my stomach feels - that actually what was "full" is actually "over-full and uncomfortable/even painful" and what was "still hungry" is actually "Do you know what, I have had enough to eat. Yes I could eat more, but I do not need to."

Have a look. It is interested - and was, to me, very eye-opening.

Thank you, this looks very insightful.

Hunger is not the feeling of fat being burned at all.

theavianexecutioner · 04/01/2018 09:31

Let's have a good day today!
We are in control of food - it doesn't control us x

Had porridge and a banana for breakfast this morning - good start.

liz70 · 04/01/2018 10:27

"Isn’t it terrible what we do to ourselves? 10 years ago I was tons thinner and still thought I was overweight."

Oh God, yes. I thought I was fat as a teenager - I was bloody 8 st 4 lb! Oh, to be that weight again!

I've actually lost some weight this Christmas due to having flu and barely eating. My weight now is 10 st 8 lb so still far too heavy. I'm using the flu induced loss to kick start the diet. Good luck to everyone else.

ZetaPuppis · 04/01/2018 10:39

Me too! I’m on a mission to reclaim my time back by being on my phone less and I realised that I probably spend loads of time eating too!
I seem to be picking and snacking a lot.
I’m going to eat 3 meals a day in an 8 hr window and fill my time with other things. I’m doing a course at the moment so I need to put more effort into that and stop distracting myself with my phone and food.
Some exercise and quality time being present with my family should help me too.

MrsEl · 04/01/2018 10:53

Shredded Wheat and coffee for me this morning.

The Christmas chocolate/Sweet stash in the cupboard keeping calling me though 😫!

Khaleesi0 · 04/01/2018 12:11

I’ve found my people! Feeling very much the same... I’m a size 16-18, only 5ft 2 with 36G boobs... feel huge Sad hope I can shift some weight over the year, I’ll be happy at a 12-14
