AIBU paying for cancelled holiday

We had booked as a group(6) to go on holiday paying a deposit. The deposit for the group was £1200.

My friend and her partner have split up and he thinks everyone should lose their money. She thinks they should pay £1200.

It is a lot of money to lose but we no longer want to go if they aren’t. I am not sure whether I should just let my £200 go. Well £400 for myself and partner.

Who is BU?
Also have you lost any money on holidays ? It seems that some things are beyond insurance control.

Oh, the lead passenger will still have to cancel them off the booking and the other couple thou, then they can put it in your name.

It doesn't seem fair for breaking up couple to be lumbered with all of the cost because their was an accepting of risk on your part when you agreed to pay a non-refundable deposit.

That said, it wouldn't be fair for you to take the full hit yourself either because it is them alone that have messed up the holiday plan.

I would say they should pay half of your deposit (so £200) and half of the other couples deposit.

It's also not right to say, "well you still have the holiday if you want it" because it's not a holiday at the price you originally signed up for; it's much more expensive without their share. I suppose they could also pay their portion to top it up but that would presumably be more than the refunding deposits.
