To be really cheeky and ask how much your new kitchen cost?

I know this is very un-British but hopefully some people will be willing to share under the cloak of anonymity!

I’m toying with the idea of a new kitchen but struggling to get a basic idea of what a kitchen costs nowadays. I’ve tried the online quote things but I’m not sure how reliable they are. Plus when I did them for a bathroom is was wildly different to what we actually ended up paying!

If anyone wants to shake a photo I’d be very grateful. I’m wanting a traditional country style.

Thanks - and if no one replies I won’t be offended Grin

Is anyone choosing a wooden door shaker look? I am tempted but am worried it will look old fashioned.

polly2 · 12/02/2018 10:08

Sorry I seem to have asked my own question. Logged on after years.
How do I post a new question to avoid interfering with someone else’s.
Great info by the way.

WonderLime · 12/02/2018 10:10

OP, sorry to derail your thread but you said the cost of your bathroom differed from how much you thought it would be - would you mind sharing the difference as I'm trying to cost up a bathroom at the moment?

SleepingBooty · 12/02/2018 10:20

We are getting a new kitchen this year. It's very small, 3m x 1.5m but U shaped so will fit a lot of units. We are looking at 7k all in: new appliances, solid oak worktop, tiling, flooring and fitting.

Redyellowblueer · 12/02/2018 10:31

Ours is being fitted bank holiday weekend and I can't wait.
Units, dshwasher, oven, hood extractor and installation £6200 from wickes.
Electric works is massive as needs a lot of work, very outdated electric system so the whole lot needs changing - £3300.
Tiles from top tiles £500

We are also having the bathroom and hallway done from bathstore which is costing us £5500.

flobella · 12/02/2018 10:44

About £12,000 in total for everything - ceilings came down, rewiring, replastering, new floor, units, stone worktops and appliances plus a little bit of tiling and new sink and taps, walls and new ceilings painted. Appliances all from John Lewis. We bought the materials from an independent kitchen showroom and had an independent carpenter fit them and the worktops and various other trades do the rest who were personally known to us. The carpenter charged £1400 for about 9 days work if that is any help? It took 5 weeks approximately from the moment everything was ripped out and chucked in a skip to the moment I was able to cook and clean in a functioning kitchen.

Don't do magnet type kitchens that come to your house. Very expensive and pressure selling. We couldn't get rid of the guy, I went to bed in the end and left h to try and get rid

LakieLady · 12/02/2018 10:49

Birdlady, I really fancy a Quooker but DP keeps telling me we could buy an awful lot of kettles for £600!

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/02/2018 10:53

£5500
Painted shaker style cabinets in pale grey. Glitter quartz work tops and splash backs.
Sink from B&Q
Taps Aldi
Intergrated fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, oven and hob AO

It is a tiny kitchen

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/02/2018 10:54

Kitchen was from DIY Kitchens

wink1970 · 12/02/2018 10:58

2 years ago, this was £29k in the end, including the new appliances (fridge, dishwasher and the Smeg stuff) and floor. It wraps round 3 sides. It's really solidly made and I've been pleasantly surprised at the tops, they're easy to keep up to. This was Magnet's "upmarket" range of solid frames.

About £1500 because DH is very handy and fits it all himself.

This includes floor tiles, worktops, cupboards, wall tiles, new sink and new oven.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 12/02/2018 13:19

I think the kitchen was 6.5k then 2K on appliances, the biggest expenditure however was the removal of the asbestos flooring and ceiling £4.5k 😲

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 12/02/2018 13:22

Sorry then labour and materials were another 6k

Birdh0use · 18/01/2019 17:02

@simonbridges what do you call that gap next to the sink for wet cloths? am thinking would be much better than rank cloths everywhere our current set up

SimonBridges · 19/01/2019 13:03

Which gap do you mean? The one under the counter with the tea towels in? That is a 'tray gap'. I do keep trays in it too, and a draining board.

Kitchenqueen2 · 17/05/2019 23:00

Our new kitchen last year cost 12.5k. We had Kessler cupboards, Konigstone quartz island, Neff oven and dishwasher, Falmec hob and new tiled floor. Money well spent as we spend so much time in our kitchen!

Bibijayne · 17/05/2019 23:17

£17.5k. but that's brand new kitchen and involved some remodeling work.

spottedbadger · 18/05/2019 08:22

£270 Grin110 for the cupboard paint, 150 for new handles from ebay and a tenner for the tile paint. Did the work myself. We used to hate our kitchen, now adore it!!

Linguaphile · 18/05/2019 08:40

25k all in, including all appliances, quartz worktop, double sinks, lighting on dimmers, fitting, etc. It’s a German one with some nice features like a pull-out larder, clever two-tier pan drawers, 80cm induction hob, double granite composite sinks, etc. The lighting/extractor box over the island is being painted this week!

At the other end of the price stick, we put a very cheap little ikea kitchen into our loft apartment a few months ago. Installed it ourselves and the total cost came in just under 2k.

Just shy of £20k for a small narrow galley one.

That included new walls, new floor, new ceiling with new lights, new wiring.

We also bought drawer units, not cupboards for under the worktop, corner units, extra high top units, new appliances, granite worktops and splash backs.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 18/05/2019 08:52

OP I would just replace the doors and handles. Also, tiling is really easy, you'll save so much doing it yourself.

BlitheringIdiots · 18/05/2019 08:54

I second Dream Doors. Used them for new doors and end panels and they wrap the frames at the front in the same colour. All done for £4.5k
