To be really cheeky and ask how much your new kitchen cost?

I know this is very un-British but hopefully some people will be willing to share under the cloak of anonymity!

I’m toying with the idea of a new kitchen but struggling to get a basic idea of what a kitchen costs nowadays. I’ve tried the online quote things but I’m not sure how reliable they are. Plus when I did them for a bathroom is was wildly different to what we actually ended up paying!

If anyone wants to shake a photo I’d be very grateful. I’m wanting a traditional country style.

Thanks - and if no one replies I won’t be offended Grin

About £50k! 😧
Hand painted solid wood including some minor structural work rendering fireplace etc.
It is a thing of beauty and my favours room

Serin · 01/01/2018 21:02

We put a solid oak kitchen in 20 years ago! It cost around 7k and was really good sturdy quality but looking very dated.

We have just finished renovating it. We did look at changing the doors but for anything "solid" the price was £££. so we just decided to paint what we had. I have seen some pretty botched home painted units in my time so we took forever sanding them down and used 3 coats of cupboard paint on each door.

Changed knobs (which were antique brass effect!) to nice ceramic crackle glaze ones on a brushed steel stem.

Changed worktops to a very dark wood, "block" type.

Changed sink to brushed steel.

Kitchen looks similar in style to Kibbles but our cupboards are sage green rather than grey.

Overall we spent about £500.

We are planning to move within 2 years so didn't want to spend a fortune.

LambMadras · 01/01/2018 21:04

Yes you can buy the doors anywhere! The carcasses will most likely be a standard size.
I recommend Howdens. So much cheaper than places like Wren or Wickes and it's basically the same stuff.
You can update your kitchen this way for a fraction of the cost.

MammaAgata · 01/01/2018 21:05

36k two years ago. Mine sounds very similar to birdlady’s - big kitchen, granite worktops, all appliances including falcon range and matching American fridge freezer, butler sink, quooker tap etc. This doesn’t include the flooring, plastering, bifolds etc, this was just the actual kitchen units and appliances. Dream kitchen though and we literally live in it virtually. In fact most of my guests Xmas day only ventured to the loo and stayed in kitchen all day. Smile

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/01/2018 21:06

Ikea don't always do the same size as other suppliers, so watch out for that if buying doors. Eg, most DIY type places sell 50 and 100 cm wide units, but Ikea do 20, 40, 60, 80, 100.

Also might need a bit of extra drilling to get the hinges to fit.

BlackPeppercorn · 01/01/2018 21:09

Bearing in mind DH fitted the units and we'd had all the electrics and plumbing sorted as part of ongoing work in other parts of the house -
We paid just under £3k to DIY-kitchens.com for all units
Oak work tops from worktop express at £550
Carpetright L for £300
Ao appliances £1500 (dbl oven, integ micro, dishwasher, extractor, fridge freezer)
So just less than £5.5k

jcsp · 01/01/2018 21:19

4 m x 4 m kitchen fitted around 3 sides, walnut top, new appliances (except oven) solid work tops, small US fridge, tiling and new lights - about £6000 - but apart from plastering a wall I did it all myself.

We planned with b and q. They have a cloud based design program. It’s a bit clunky and won’t work on all platforms. The idea is good, you plan what you want, colours etc etc. It draws it out and produces 2 lists. Supply only and supply and fit.

Quite chuffed when the plasterer said, A That I’d done a good job and B it was a £16k kitchen.

Good luck with yours.

Alwaysatyke · 01/01/2018 21:24

My previous kitchen cost about £3500 for units, appliances and fitting, from Ikea. That was about 8 years ago for a small-ish kitchen. Current kitchen (much bigger, different house, I'm not just fickle) was about £9000 including fitting and appliances from Howdens but there was a lot of remedial work to be done in the room before the units could go in so it'd be cheaper in a room which was in better shape to start with.

Arkengarthdale · 01/01/2018 21:25

About £20k but included some building work and velux windows. And an Aga. It was 10 years ago and we haven't changed a thing. It's gorgeous and worth every penny. We spend so much time in there and still admire it. Invest!

roses2 · 01/01/2018 21:26

Look at diykitchens for units and doors. Cheaper than Ikea, solid wood and any bespoke colour.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate the advice! As you can probably tell I’m not very experienced.... so far I’ve done a bathroom! First home. Can I ask a silly question about the replacement doors... how does that work with the frame colour? The cupboards are only a standard creamy colour but wondering if I could match? All of your kitchens sound amazing!!

We just our kitchen done and it was 11k inc all white goods.

SpadesOfGlory · 01/01/2018 21:35

We bought a new build (small local builder, only 8 houses in our development) and the builder allowed £5000 towards the kitchen and appliances. I think we ended up paying a bit extra, about £1k. But this was it just installed before we moved in, it's my favourite room in the house Smile

Floor tiles (not pictured) cost about £600 but included the hallway and downstairs toilet too. And tiling was about the same price.

Interesting how the 50k kitchen people don't post pictures yet people with 6k kitchens are happy to Hmm I suppose you can be whoever you want to be on the Internet.

Yorkshiremum17 · 01/01/2018 21:39

We have just had ours done. One wall knocked down and replaced with metal beam, one new wall built! Plastering and decorating, new lights, and labor £8,200. New kitchen cupboards, Neff integrated oven, ceramic hob from Howden £6,900 (sale). Flooring £400. Fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine £1,800.

What ever you think it might cost and what you’ve been quoted, have a few grand contingency to spare. Nothing goes to plan with kitchens

My house was the worst house the guy from Wickes had seen (unknown electrical issues)

GoingRogue · 01/01/2018 21:41

Don't know where you are OP, but I've used these guys for a minor alteration and they were great

Dream Doors

I'm trying to design our new family bathroom and I keep going round in circles ! Have you got any tips for me please OP? It's 2.5m x 2m and we want a shower over bath if you have any experience?! (Sorry for thread hijack!).

We were looking at 12-15k finished, fairly big room in new extension and then I found a bargain second hand one that was immaculate with range cooker etc inc and quite new just being replaced due to new owners not liking it. I absolutely love itSmile

Iggity · 01/01/2018 21:42

We built an extension to our dining room to accommodate a new kitchen which was about 50k.
Kitchen was from Benchmarx (7-8k)
Independent kitchen designer - £250
New appliances (induction hob, double oven, built in microwave, extractor and American fridge) 2k
Sink and taps, Tiles for walls and tiling of extension plus dining area, Underfloor heating, Lightning (4K approx).
Stools for Island - 750

Our old kitchen was turned into loo-tility room with cheaper cupboards from Benchmarx used.

Hahahaha 😂

HTKB · 01/01/2018 21:44

We have budgeted 10k for units and worktops. I did toy with getting IKEA carcasses and doors made by shakerdoors.co.uk.... Someone on here said they got new doors from them for 2.5

DagenhamRoundhouse · 01/01/2018 21:45

Bit over 12k. Used kitchen designer who planned it all.
