To be really cheeky and ask how much your new kitchen cost?

I know this is very un-British but hopefully some people will be willing to share under the cloak of anonymity!

I’m toying with the idea of a new kitchen but struggling to get a basic idea of what a kitchen costs nowadays. I’ve tried the online quote things but I’m not sure how reliable they are. Plus when I did them for a bathroom is was wildly different to what we actually ended up paying!

If anyone wants to shake a photo I’d be very grateful. I’m wanting a traditional country style.

Ours cost about 8k maybe - my husbands aunt and uncle just redid theirs and cost upwards of 20k - all top of the range and all made in England - it’s a stunning kitchen though and most of the time everyone spends their time in there!

@champagne.. a few pictures for you taken during fitting of my kitchen.

We recently changed the worktops, tiles, sink, tap and flooring in our kitchen. It cost around £2.5K. We couldn’t justify a complete change as there was nothing wrong with the kitchen when we moved in, but it wasn’t our taste, very dark, despite white units. We now have metro tiles, oak effect worktops, and a beautiful porcelain sink. You can do it for very little if you just want a facelift.

Just had ours completed a couple of months ago. Cost around £40k in total with flooring and building works etc. Kitchen and appliances and design etc was £22k. The rest was worktop in quartz, tiles and tiler, lighting and unexpected floor levelling etc. It's the most used room in the house and I love it. Feel very lucky.

One more showing the tiling and oven finished.

It was around £8k. I did the plastering, tiling and installing myself but used someone to fit the worktops and install the hob and cooker.

I'm having cupboard doors and end panels replaced as nothing wrong with the actual cupboards. Costing £4.5k fitted but I've not gone cheap and have quite a few cupboards.

Went with Benchmarx. 14k but husband fitted it so saved money there.

Units with integrated dishwasher fridge and extractor 7.500 from Wren, building work (demolishing pantries, plastering, levelling floor, new window all new electrics ) 10,000 , floor tiles, wall tiles and independent fitting of units 2,500.

My nan has just had a kitchen installed from Tecaz. It cost £5k all in (except flooring, oven, fridge and decorating) it was 3k for the kitchen and 2k for everything else Inc electrics (all needed doing as the last time they were done was well before 1982 when they bought it), tiling, plumbing, installing it etc.

3500 on units
3000 appliances
1400 fitting
400 decorating.

Mine is almost exactly the same as quicknamechange! German handleless gloss white, very thin Quartz surfaces and light grey glass splash backs with a feature wall of exposed brick, was around £40k I think? It’s my happy place, the kids do their homework in there and sit at the island whilst we do dinner, was scary to spend that much, but has become the heart of the home

My kitchen is a state and needs doing badly but I rarely see galley kitchens in threads like these to give me some idea so it’s really good to see some now. They look fab.

May I ask where did you start with planning a new kitchen? Is it just a case of going to b&q or wren? Did you get a lot of quotes. We need the whole thing doing but not sure where to start?

I’m absolutely gobsmacked at the £50k kitchens! I know we all have different budgets and starting points but .....50 grand! 50 grand!!

Ignore my name, my kitchen is actually finished now . £10.5k all through Wren including appliances which are all AEG and Bosch so quality stuff. Units are very very sturdy too. Machine built not flat packed so stronger. Quartz worktops. Very happy.

My builder advised to go with specialist kitchen manufacturers not jack of all trades places as you can negotiate on price and the quality is usually better. He suggested Benchmarks but they dicked us around a bit so we looked elsewhere. He said if you have to go with an all rounder, choose Ikea (but once you have an Ikea kitchen all future doors etc have to go through them as they have weird sizes) but avoid Homebase and Wicks as their stuff doesn’t last no matter how pretty to start with and they partner with lower quality appliance manufacturers. Also avoid laminate if you can afford to.

Smallish kitchen here, cost me £14k in total for custom units, new appliances, and one of the most expensive silestone worktops . We fitted the flooring and did the tiling too. Love it though.

OP look at new doors. Keep the frames and just replace the doors and trim/countertop.

We're doing that and it's going to cost us about £600 total including new floor tiles.

I know of someone building a £100k bespoke kitchen I haven’t seen it (don’t move in those kind of circles) but the person who has, told me that it’s so unique that it’s in danger of devaluing the home as it will really put some people off.

This really is How long is a piece of string. Kitchens vary so much, size, type of units, work tops. Ours was 20k, but it's a big room , we have a large island, and 4K of that was granite, another 2.5 was thr range cooker, splash back and hood. Also had all new appliances. It does add up.

Cost of labour must vary dependent on where you are in the country as well, surely?
