To wash baby in the machine?

'Baby' is dd's favourite doll. She is grey with dirt as dd believes naked is the way all babies want to be. She is the plastic headed, soft bodied kind. If I bung her in a low wash in a pillowcase, will bad things happen? She has moving eyelids too. Is it bad JuJu?

imagine that suds little face whipping round on a 1400spin....all sudsy eyes and greying face.....

c3pu · 31/12/2017 14:30

Surely a damp cloth and some bio wash powder would work better?

Pluckedpencil · 31/12/2017 14:30

Wool wash, low spin? closes eyes and tries not to hear baby's screams

My baby doll when I was little sounds similar, very hard plastic head and hands with a fabric body. She went in the washing machine in a pillowcase... I found out years later that the pillowcase was more to protect the washing machine than to protect baby!

Knittedfairies · 31/12/2017 14:31

I think it should be ok - could you wash it with a couple of towels to 'soften the blow' maybe?

Elsiejane · 31/12/2017 14:32

I thought this was about a real baby at first hehe

Pluckedpencil · 31/12/2017 14:33

Please elaborate c3pu...I just worry that if she is grey on the outside then maybe she is a bit bacteria ridden to the core? No offence Baby.

Should be fine, my cousin had a 'baby' similar, who was washed.

Then my aunt found another 'baby' so would swop for washing. Then one day cousin open the wardrobe door and 'baby 2' fell out. 'Baby baby!' She couldn't find a third......

Candlelight234 · 31/12/2017 14:39

Baby wipes are good for cleaning plastic dolls. I wouldn't put it in the washing machine tbh.

Popsicle434544 · 31/12/2017 14:41

I wash my dd's babies in the machine, take a couple of days to dry out completly, i put them in the airing cuboard

Chaosofcalm · 31/12/2017 14:45

My baby was washed regularly this way and still is as my toddler also believes that dolls should be naked.

LookingForwardToChristmas · 31/12/2017 14:45

Pop inside a pillow case and I agree a few towels might cushion it inside the drum. Do a delicate, cold wash with antibacterial washing liquid and it should be fine.

Pluckedpencil · 31/12/2017 14:46

My mum said they used to have doll hospitals. Shame they seem to be gone now.

I’ve done it, just make sure they dry properly.

BrutusMcDogface · 31/12/2017 14:47

I also thought real baby....was thinking it was a big poonami, and was going to say "what a great idea!" Grin

Pluckedpencil · 31/12/2017 14:49

Right you have convinced me. I'll let baby celebrate the new year and then into the drum she goes. I'll do a before and after for you all!

I used to put my soft bodied cabbage patch kids in the Wash with no problem. (The only dolls any future children of mine will ever be allowed to have. All others are just ugly!)

BlackeyedSusan · 31/12/2017 14:49

oh goodness, I remember nearly getting reported to social services by the head teacher as I said reception aged ds was playing with the baby in the bath....

Anditstartsagain · 31/12/2017 14:50

I would wash her with a couple of towels to stop her banging about and use some if the detol washing machine stuff hopefully kill any nastys inside.

It's for her own good Grin

Crikeyblimey · 31/12/2017 14:52

When ds’s ‘doggy’ used to go int the wash, ds insisted he have some ‘don’t be sick’ medi (ds was and still is travel sick) so he could cope with the spin cycle Grin

BoredOnMatLeave · 31/12/2017 14:56

Oh yes show pics. DD has got her 1st baby for Xmas and she is absolutely not allowed clothing on, so I expect I will have to do the same

ScreamingValenta · 31/12/2017 14:57

I restored a filthy soft-bodied porcelain doll by soaking her body in a solution of hot water and Vanish - it worked a treat.

ijustwannadance · 31/12/2017 15:00

Bucket of hot water with a load of oxyclean.

MsHomeSlice · 31/12/2017 15:01

Baby is holding her breath and scuba diving underneath Minnie.

Ours used to give their teddies a 'bath' in the sink. Lots of bubble bath and try not to look at the colour of the water. Drying could be more challenging- maybe by the radiator.
