To wash baby in the machine?

'Baby' is dd's favourite doll. She is grey with dirt as dd believes naked is the way all babies want to be. She is the plastic headed, soft bodied kind. If I bung her in a low wash in a pillowcase, will bad things happen? She has moving eyelids too. Is it bad JuJu?

That is quite a good idea actually, much less traumatic to be drowned in a bucket of water than spun in a drum

Wool wash and soap.

I don’t see the problem... unless you’re afraid it could break?

pebkac · 31/12/2017 15:03

I've washed TY beanies and dolls with shiny eyes, with strips of the adhesive parts of a fabric plaster over the eyes to stop them being scraped/dulled by the machine? This might work to stabilise the rolling eyeball mechanism as well? also protect against the paint of the iris/pupil getting scraped.

Lweji · 31/12/2017 15:07

Remove head, sew neck opening, wash in machine, dry body, reattach head (sewing or gluing).
It could be more traumatic for DD, though.

Pluckedpencil · 31/12/2017 15:07

Yes I am worried about her eye mechanism, eye lashes and the paint work. I'm sure the stuffing will be fine.

Anyway you can detach the head and put it in the wash?

Gasps at the thought of dd seeing headless doll in the washer Shock

I LOVE this thread!!

astoundedgoat · 31/12/2017 15:19

We had a doll like that too and I put her in on a delicate wash (to lessen the thumping?) with some towels. Came out SO pleasingly clean, and in one piece.

RupertsMum2 · 31/12/2017 15:20

I washed ddogs toys in the machine. It was awesome. They cane out beautifully. They don't have plastic faces though.

WorraLiberty · 31/12/2017 15:22

At the risk of adding to the cruelty list

Can you not tightly blindfold her with a stocking or a pair of tights, to protect her eyes?

ChristmasAtSquiffanys · 31/12/2017 15:25

I agree with Worra, Put a sock over her head to protect it!

I REALLY hope this isn't a real baby...

ChristmasAtSquiffanys · 31/12/2017 15:26

How does DD feel about Baby going in the machine?
Would it be best to wait until DD is elsewhere?

Lweji · 31/12/2017 15:27

This would be a great DF article.
"MNetters wash their babies in the washing machine, with socks over their heads."

MimsyFluff · 31/12/2017 15:28

I once washed a baby annabelle it went on a 40°C wash and 1400 spin and it still worked Confused

Jux · 31/12/2017 15:32

A rubber glove over her head, held in place tightly by an elastic band round the neck. Then bung her in the bucket. Pretend she’s on a far off star and is in a space suit.

WeirdCatLady · 31/12/2017 15:36

If you take a needle or a pin and give her an anaesthetic injection she will sleep through the whole thing. This also works with teddies when they need to be sewn up.

And yes, I still do this even if it’s just me and the teddy in the room Hmm

user1485778793 · 31/12/2017 15:38

Gaffa tape the eyes down.

I'm sure water will collect in the plastic head. You'll need to do an extra spin to make sure it's all squeezed out Grin

Thermostatpolice · 31/12/2017 15:42

I've done this and the doll survived. It didn't smell the same though and DC was sad.

WorraLiberty · 31/12/2017 15:42

I was going to suggest gaffa tape

But I was worried OP might rip its eyes out when she pulls it off Grin

user1485778793 · 31/12/2017 15:44

No, don't have a tape..... doll will look freaky with no eyelashes

rizlett · 31/12/2017 15:50

Another way to get rid of bacteria [if you can give baby some nytol before] is to put her in the freezer overnight.

yearofthehorse · 31/12/2017 15:52

You could always put her in the dishwasher - it works with Lego..

Hardwickwhite · 31/12/2017 15:53

We did this with one of DDs babies. She had a permanent wink afterwards, but smelt lovely.

flumpybear · 31/12/2017 15:59

I just washed stinky MMA boxing gloves in the washing machine, but different but they came out fine .... my trainers however did not!
Moral of my story is .... Only wash if there's no glue holding it together HmmShock

softkitty79 · 31/12/2017 15:59

I was going to suggest bag over head and duck tape to seal it and keep the eye mechanism dry.......
Then I realised how sinister that might sound!
