To wash baby in the machine?

'Baby' is dd's favourite doll. She is grey with dirt as dd believes naked is the way all babies want to be. She is the plastic headed, soft bodied kind. If I bung her in a low wash in a pillowcase, will bad things happen? She has moving eyelids too. Is it bad JuJu?

What have you done with it op?

Lweji · 31/12/2017 16:12

Actually, freezing kills bugs, but not so much bacteria. At least not enough of them, and it doesn't get rid of organic material.

Abra1d · 31/12/2017 16:15

Frankly, there is much to be said for washing children in the washing machine too.

I usually pin the kids on the line to dry, though, as tumble drying makes them go too fluffy. It’s fun for them if it’s a windy day and they blow backwards and forwards.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 31/12/2017 16:17

Don't forget the ZOFLORA!!!!

StripySocksAndDocs · 31/12/2017 16:22

I've washed a tiger, cat, giraffe and a
bears in the washing machine. All was fine. Turned our well (and smelling better)

Never washed baby though. I feel the head may fill with water which might be problematic. (If there's a rim around the neck this may cause drainage problems.) Does baby have a hole in her head?

froginapond · 31/12/2017 16:23

@elsiejane

I thought this was about a real baby at first hehe

That is what the OP wanted everyone to think. That is why she put a click-bait title. 🙄

x2boys · 31/12/2017 16:28

My mum once washed my teddy in the machine it fell apart in the machine I can still remember her opening the door and it was full of teddy bear stuffing Sad but I'm sure washing machines have improved some the 70,s ....

ChristmasAtSquiffanys · 31/12/2017 16:33

Does baby have a hole in her head?
If head does fill with water, maybe a discreet trephine with a hot needle at base of neck or behind ear?

insancerre · 31/12/2017 16:34

I work in a nursery
We wash all cuddly toys and they come out fine
And baby dolls are always naked
It's the law

maddiemookins16mum · 31/12/2017 16:36

DD's baby doll always got washed in the machine inside one of DH's big thick gardening socks. She was fine but her eyes stopped blinking after one wash for a few days.

Pearlsaringer · 31/12/2017 16:38

Doesn’t Baby’s head pull off? Of course you might not be able to get it back on again. Ah, doll hospitals.....

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/12/2017 16:39

Damn you, ChickenVindaloo! You beat me to it with the Zoflora comment!

Showing my age 😂

EggysMom · 31/12/2017 16:45

Just think carefully about where you are going to put Baby to dry ... Nobody puts Baby in the corner.

Knittedfairies · 31/12/2017 16:46

I had a doll that went off to the Doll Hospital for new hair. I don't think I was allowed to play with her when she came home, then she disappeared...

Two hours later I guess I’m coming to this too late 😫 but I wouldn’t. It will ruin her eyes. Just hand wash her body and CAREFULLY wipe her head face without getting her eyes wet.

flumpybear · 31/12/2017 16:59

Zoflora?? I have some in the cupboard ... is it magic?

Another nursery worker who's dolls are always naked and often chucked in the wash.

Loving the blindfold idea.

1moremum · 31/12/2017 17:18

Paddington who got left outside in the mud survived the washer AND the dryer. The coat was washed seperately in a small bag meant for bras, but the hat doesnt come off. Good luck with Baby and the rest of the swim team in there with her.

Kids toys are so incredibly resilient. I washed all of them once and wanted the by product of silencing the annoying battery operated ones but they still all work...

CremeFresh · 31/12/2017 17:55

You're a braver woman than me Op !

MollyHuaCha · 31/12/2017 18:16

Risky. Why if something goes wrong in the wash?
