When one hears that NYE party is frigging FANCY DRESS

I'm also ready a complete Scrooge about NYE parties. But unfortunately my excuses were all countered. ("Can't leave baby that long? Bring him!" said nice hosts.) But I've suddenly heard that said nice hosts have decided to make their party frigging fancy dress. I loath fancy dress.
Someone tell me I'd not be unreasonable to pull a sickie or something?? Or otherwise, an easy costume idea. Something where a 4 month old is a good accessory.

If your DH is Captain Hook, you could go as a pirate? Striped top, make an eye patch and cut up some old leggings?

Or Wendy - generic mumsy type dress? Baby could be a lost boy?

Did you find anything OP?

Somerville · 31/12/2017 17:45

Sorry not to update sooner - was knocking up a Scooby Doo outfit for baby. Well, in a dimly lit room, if one squints, it might pass as scooby doo.
DD1 thought I needed to embrace the fact that my hair is brighter auburn than usual at the moment henna fail so I'm going as Daphne. And DH's borrowed wig stank of beer, so now I'm making him be Fred. Daphne costume was easy to adapt from my normal wardrobe so I've got time to relax for a bit now.

Happy New Year all Wine

Your favourite party outfit loads if also (I'd add a tiara I still have my wedding one) and go as the posh/best/glam you

IvysMum12 · 31/12/2017 18:02

Have you any dark evening clothes?
Dress up so that you feel happy and confident, then stick a postage stamp on your shoulder or wherever.
Blackmail!

Loveache · 31/12/2017 18:05

Just do something to your face with an eyeliner. Whiskers and a black nose. You can make a pair of ears from cardboard and colour them in, if you have an Alice band stick them on to that, failing that, glue them onto a strip of cardboard and use hairpins. Wear all black, whatever you fancy. Maybe make a tail from old black tights stuffed with eg loo roll, rolled up newspaper. Do similar for the baby and be a cat with her kitten.

Ummmmgogo · 31/12/2017 18:08

we need a photo of you and your Scooby doo family!

Rossigigi · 31/12/2017 18:15

Somerville no you are safe! This was as 18 year olds, still at school. It was at a party and some teachers were there who thought it was a brilliant idea.
Sounds like you looked great though!

Trb17 · 31/12/2017 18:16

I hate fancy dress too so would do throw a sickie.

However if you can’t...

.....safety pin a few pairs of knickers across your front....

..... go as a “Chest of Drawers”

Wink
Rossigigi · 31/12/2017 18:17

Sounds good OP! Enjoy the night and Happy New Year Wine

inappropriateraspberry · 31/12/2017 18:32

What were you planning on wearing? If you had a nice dress lined up, wear it and say you're a Bond girl, Audrey Hepburn or some other glam person/character.

Somerville · 31/12/2017 18:35

Thanks all.

Have a fun night party animals, and Envy to those of you having a cosy night in.

Baby is finding the brown fur Scooby Doo costume rather itchy, but he has to go back in it for at least the start of the party so that people know who I am. mean mother

You have a 4 month old bf baby, you managed to make a costume and you're going to a party?! Bloody hell - I reckon you should be going as wonderwoman Grin Have a great time Wine

SemolinaSilkpaws · 31/12/2017 18:56

Sounds good Somerville.

Hope doesn’t turn out to be like the FD parties I used to go which had games to be played/participated in too. All I wanted to do was have a glass of wine and chat to people but would be forced into long involved stuff that did my head in completely.

Oh and there was a parade of fancy dress costumes with prizes for the best man and woman.

shatteredandfedup · 31/12/2017 19:34

Daphne is a fab idea. Have a lovely time :)

ElephantsandTigers · 01/01/2018 17:33

Somerville · 02/01/2018 15:06

I spent most of the party playing Perudo with She-Ra, an elf and a couple of gangsters. So it was brilliant, thanks, Elephant Grin

Thanks for the congrats jayho my dear. He's a chubby and smiley little thing and we're enjoying him so much.

My most embarrassing moment (which I think was deliberate given the people involved) was arriving to a party as Mr Blobby to be THE ONLY ONE IN A COSTUME. "Oh we meant fancy dress as in smart not costumes" with a smirk.
