Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

@usernameinfinito

Why is it "pathetic" though? Most (all?) cultures throughout history have enjoyed some form of mind altering substance, is everyone who has ever done so "pathetic" too? The UK's most common drug of choice happens to be alcohol, but some of us choose an alternative. I don't judge people who drink alcohol for recreation so I don't really understand why you and other would judge me for my choices.

Admittedly it's still theoretically illegal, but are you honestly telling me you've never wilfully broken a law when it didn't hurt somebody else?

BillyWilliamTheThird · 30/12/2017 16:16

I would also argue that the effects of THC on teen brains that are still developing is (a) anecdotally scary and ( b) not yet fully understood. It's unhelpful to make a distinction between teen users and adult users.

DreamyMcDreamy · 30/12/2017 16:18

Illegal, skanky and definitely abnormal.

usernameinfinito · 30/12/2017 16:19

Billy, I don’t judge you. I am not out with my finger pointed at you. You and the rest of the world can do to their bodies whatever they want for all I care.
As why is it pathetic, I thought that was self explanatory.

BillyWilliamTheThird · 30/12/2017 16:22

@usernameinfinito nooooo, not self -explanatory, otherwise I wouldn't have asked for an explanation. Also saying my choices are pathetic is deffo judgey.

MrsDilber · 30/12/2017 16:23

Breaking my family apart. DS addicted and rotting in his own filth.

It is not harmless.

BillyWilliamTheThird · 30/12/2017 16:26

@dreamy and I am definitely not fucking skanky 😡

Possibly abnormal (smoking weed isn't done by most people, granted) and definitely illegal (the law's an ass IMO as far as this is concerned) but I am not a skank, just because I choose a different recreational drug.

Indigo911 · 30/12/2017 16:28

I’m not ‘skanky’ either. I don’t drink alcohol but choose to smoke weed twice a week (only half a joint each time). I have a successful career, well educated and function completely normally in day to day life. Enough of the ridiculous judgements please! Not everyone who smokes weed lie in bed all day in their own filth

BillyWilliamTheThird · 30/12/2017 16:36

@Indigo cheers (or whatever our equivalent of glass chinking would be).

And I agree with MrsDilbert too. Smoking weed is definitely not without risk. As others have said, it is incredibly dangerous for some people, but the same is true of all drugs isn't it?

Still not a reason to call us pathetic or skanky though

maxthemartian · 30/12/2017 16:41

Ffs. Fair enough if it's not for you, I agree it's not without risk but all the pearl clutching is a joke.
It's not weed that makes town centres an unpleasant no go zone at weekends and inundated A&E.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/12/2017 16:42

I'm assuming that everyone on here who smokes it smokes at home?

The teenagers DD knows smoke it in public - behind Costa in town and other such places.

What I am saying is that no-one seems to care that it is still illegal in the UK.

usernameinfinito · 30/12/2017 16:49

Billy

A teenager doing that to try is one thing. An adult needing that as a crutch is pathetic in my opinion.
Also, take into account how many people end up ruining their lives as Mrs Dilbert said. I expect silly decisions from teenagers, not grown ups defending their drug of choice.

Also, if you are secure of your choice, why do you care what I or other people in the thread think of weed? That’s not logical.

k2p2k2tog · 30/12/2017 16:49

People who are in professions where random drugs tests are commonplace risk the sack if drugs are detected in their urine/blood.

Wonder how many people would be happy sitting on a plane, train or coach with a regular cannabis smoker at the wheel?

Indigo911 · 30/12/2017 16:51

A crutch?! Stop making stupid presumptions. I’m 100% happy and confident in myself. I smoke it because I enjoy the feeling it gives me just before bed. Just like I’m sure people enjoy drinking because they like the taste or the chilled out feeling they get from a glass of wine in front of the tv

Ta1kinPeace · 30/12/2017 17:00

An adult needing that as a crutch is pathetic in my opinion
same applies to alcohol
same applies to tobacco
same applies to caffeine

If alcohol is so harmless then why are 70% of A&E admissions on weekends pissed people ?

If tobacco is so harmless, why are so many COPD patients ex smokers ?

Marijuana is illegal because of a fluke of law in the 60's
there is no good chemical reason why tobacco is not also illegal.

usernameinfinito · 30/12/2017 17:02

That is the tragedy of addiction. Usually people think they are still in charge of it, not the other way around.

Indigo911 · 30/12/2017 17:03

Alcohol would definitely come out on top for the drug that ruins the most lives. My best friend is a paramedic and she has to spend most of her evenings dealing with violent drunks or unconscious girls putting themselves in very vulnerable situations. The NHS is on its feet because of all the drunks and fat people in this country. I don’t recall marijuana being one of the top reasons for this country’s demise. Just saying.

Ta1kinPeace · 30/12/2017 17:05

Do get off your high horse.

Marijuana is not physically addictive.
Tobacco is.
So is Alcohol

Marijuana is psychologically addictive
in the same way as caffeine

gillybeanz · 30/12/2017 17:06

In my job they do random checks but I'm not bothered.
I'd argue the case anyway.
They do it because the company employs drivers so they treat everyone the same irrespective of their role.
What you do in your own time is your own business unless having drink/drugs in your system has an impact on your ability to perform your role.
If I tested positive to alcohol or drugs I'd be sacked, they don't pay me enough to dictate my free time.

maxthemartian · 30/12/2017 17:07

I'll tell my DH he is tragically addicted next time he has a few puffs Grin

Might not be for a few months unless I kick him in the back!

Indigo911 · 30/12/2017 17:07

I’m not addicted in any way to it. I smoke it sensibly and could easily never smoke it again if I had to. I don’t crave it ever. I Think it would only become psychologically addictive if someone was smoking it several times a day. Same with caffeine - if someone enjoys the odd coffee then it’s not going to mess their heads up. But if they start drinking 10 strong black cups of the stuff a day then they will become reliant on it to function

Hidingtonothing · 30/12/2017 17:08

See that's where you and I differ Indigo, I can't be content with that nice feeling to drift off to sleep, before I know it my first joint has crept earlier and earlier in the day and I'm back to it being the first thing I think of when I wake up in a morning. For some it's an optional pleasure but for others it's an addiction like any other with exactly the same negative impact on lives.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 30/12/2017 17:09

@Ta1kinPeace, the research you're after is here on the Royal College of Psychiatrists' website:

Some users may experience psychotic symptoms with hallucinations and delusions lasting a few hours, which can be very unpleasant. Even though these unpleasant effects do not last long, since the drug can stay in the system for some weeks, the effect can be more long-lasting than users realise.

Indigo911 · 30/12/2017 17:10

@hiding I’m not saying that weed can’t be very destructive, and some people will handle it a lot worse than others. But the sweeping generalisations that all weed smokers are skanks or pathetic or vile really irks me. I wouldn’t label everyone who drinks at the pub a raging alcoholic with mental problems
