Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

OP posts:
CurryWorst · 30/12/2017 18:33

I have never used weed because it is illegal

I think thats the worst reason not to use it.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/12/2017 18:37

I think that's the worst reason not to use it.

Why?

I think it is a perfectly valid one. DD needs a current DBS check for studying medicine. If she gets caught with weed her career choice goes up the spout.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 30/12/2017 19:17

There a theory that society works because about 75% of citizens will abide by the law whether they agree with it or not. So actually declining a scutter drug because it's illegal is quite commonplace.

The poster with the dd not wanting to risk a chance at med school sounds very focused and switched on - good for her x

CurryWorst · 30/12/2017 20:10

Nobody gets charged for having a joint, fgs.

Doing things or not purely because of legality has always seemed to me to be an utter abdication of ethical thinking.

I would just say that a person addicted to cannabis is a frightening, paranoid, fucked up person just as a person addicted to alcohol. And it DOES happen, and it’s horrific. I lived with it. Not normal and not acceptable for me

Greenshoots1 · 30/12/2017 22:54

It doesn’t all come smuggled into the country filled with the blood, sweat and tears from abused slave children you know?

It isn't smuggled into the country. It is produced here in the UK by child slaves.

I can't believe what I'm reading - pp claiming her weed is "ethically sourced" because it is grown in the UK - are you mad?

It is grown in the UK by slaves

MsHarry · 30/12/2017 22:59

I'm 46, have never smoked it. Don't know anyone who does. DH tried it once as a teenager. DD17 says it's commonplace at parties.

MsHarry · 30/12/2017 23:01

Would say though that people are very open about t. I walk my dog around 3pm and smell it most days walking past young men in particular. It's so distinctive to smell but they don't seem worried.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 31/12/2017 00:21

Type of people who feel entitled to use it will justify it with any old delusional answer. I would laugh except for the human exploitation and sadness. But you crack on love

DrFoxtrot · 31/12/2017 00:27

Purely anecdotal but in my job I see lots of young men with mood problems and paranoia and symptoms similar to bipolar disorder and there is a history of cannabis use in the vast majority. Typically it’s males, female patients have a history of cannabis use much less frequently in my experience.

It’s enough for me to warn my kids about it.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 31/12/2017 00:41

Hmm at the Cool Mums who couldn’t give a shit how/where it’s grown. The empty house next to a relative of mine had a cannabis farm in it, they overloaded the electrics so much that the fuse box in my relatives house was hot. They called the energy company, which resulted in the police being called and hence finding the farm. Their house with their DC could have set on fire. But yeah as long as the Cool Mums are getting high...

Oliversmumsarmy · 31/12/2017 01:48

From what I have seen over the years I have known people who smoke it recreationally with no apparent adverse effects till something happens like a divorce or they get made redundant or a death in the family then their whole world implodes and they never seem to recover

I have known a couple of people who have ended up on the streets having had managerial positions they were made redundant from.

The falls were huge and unfathomable. They both seemed to struggle with applying for other posts and gradually their lives fell apart.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 31/12/2017 09:02

Thatwouldbe - exactly. Plus if it's legalised the black market will say exactly the same

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 09:50

@oliversmum and have you Never known anyone whose life has been destroyed by alcohol? I’ve known plenty over the years. I’m not saying that weed doesn’t cause a lot of problems too, it certainly does when it’s used excessively.
But for those on here that are being incredibly judgy about anyone who smokes a bit of weed now and again, labelling us pathetic and skanky, it’s craziness when it’s a documented fact that alcohol has caused more damage and expense to this county than marijuana has. Just because it’s illegal, doesn’t mean it’s automatically a whole lot worse for you. I guarantee within the next 10 years it will be legalised anyway, and the price of alcohol will go up to deter people from binge drinking so much.

And as for the cretin above who said I purchase my weed from child slaves in this country... please don’t make such ridiculous claims when you have absolutely no idea. You are 100% wrong and it’s offensive of you to say such a thing. I wouldn’t smoke it if I didn’t know exactly where mine came from. I’ve smoked it on and off for years and have always easily been able to source it from friends who grow it or local farmers who grow it.

And for those calling me a “cool mum” - I’m not a mum and I don’t think I’m cooler than those who don’t smoke weed. It’s something that I enjoy now and then, just as I’m sure some of you enjoy the taste of alcohol and getting a bit tipsy. As long as we can all function normally and lead happy lives then it isn’t harming anyone. I know plenty of people who smoke it who you would never imagine to. A university professor, a primary school teacher, a retired policeman in his 70s, 3 nurses, a manager of a big engineering firm, a grandmother, a personal trainer. It’s not just chavs smoking it down darkened alleyways, scoring it from evil drug dealers who smuggle it into the country from third world places.

For those who do over indulge in any form of drug, whether it’s weed, alcohol, coke or whatever - it’s very sad to see and more should be done to tackle mental health issues from an early age. I don’t think I was taught a single thing about anxiety or depression at school, and maybe people wouldn’t become so reliant on these things if they were taught better coping mechanisms.

DreamyMcDreamy · 31/12/2017 09:56

I’ve smoked it on and off for years and have always easily been able to source it from friends who grow it or local farmers who grow it.

Yeah, just because your trusted besties are drug dealers/growers,that makes it automatically all OK and all done legitimately/ethically.
Wake up.

Lillybilly20 · 31/12/2017 10:01

I don’t smoke it but I don’t care that others do. It’s not as bad or dangerous as aggressive people on alcohol and no worse for you than people who are fat and addicted to food/sugar x

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 10:02

@dreamy rolls eyes. Do you eat chocolate? Are you ok with the awful treatment of the cocoa farmers who supply it to this country?
I’ve never once said that EVERYONE who smokes weed gets it sourced ethically. I’m fully aware of the wider picture and what goes on thank you very much.
I was responding directly to the post where someone above told me that I, personally, get my weed from child slaves in the UK. That’s a downright lie.

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 10:03

I’m sure those of you who are overweight and stuff yourselves with junk food and booze will live much longer, healthier lives than those of us who smoke the odd joint....

Oliversmumsarmy · 31/12/2017 10:04

Yes I have known people who s life has been destroyed by alcohol. I have also known people who's life has been destroyed by cigarettes/red meat/crossing the road but the op was talking about weed not whether alcohol/cigarettes etc were worse for you.

I am one of those really fun people who doesn't smoke, drink, take drugs or eats meat of any colour.

Lillybilly20 · 31/12/2017 10:05

Indigo911 Agreed! Fat people put far more strain on our NHS that people who use cannibis

Lillybilly20 · 31/12/2017 10:07

*than!

e1y1 · 31/12/2017 10:08

It fucking stinks!!

To each their own, but my God it’s the most revolting smell on Earth, one of the few smells that knocks me instantly sick 🤢

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 10:17

@e1y1 I have to admit I don’t much like the smell either. Think that’s why I only smoke it very sparingly. I would hate my home to smell of it. I enjoy the effect of it though, but I always mix it with a lot of nicotine so I never get too stoned. My ex absolutely loved the smell of it

LightDrizzle · 31/12/2017 10:52

Those who work with families or teens do seem to overwhelmingly feel that they see a link with mental health issues and crippling effects on motivation.
I was on the fence about its harmfulness, but my experience over the years leaves me fully expecting more and more research to demonstrate causal links.
It’s incredibly difficult to work with teens who smoke heavily and heartbreaking to see nice, bright-enough lads (normally lads, at the FE College I worked at) drop away. The once coveted chance of progression to qualifications in construction/ business/ catering literally up in smoke. Because I teach post-compulsory, I rarely had any involvement with families, but I did teach one lovely lad who sadly was eventually excluded as weed made him increasingly erratic and occasionally abusive. His mum was desperate as her older son had already spiralled to the point of police involvement. He loved her to bits and would say he wanted to stay off it, but he have had to ditch his friends who were all stoners and it just never happened. His poor Mum! My very senior Social Worker friend has no doubts either, she sees the more extreme end of the spectrum to me, it looms large in the background of the vast majority of teens she has oversight of who are sectioned.
