Please help me escape this S**hole of a place called home. I want a break from my unbearable husband. I cannot stand being around him for varied reasons & need a break desperately.
Please recommend a place in the UK which are good for travelling alone, has some activities to do and is generally pleasant....
Anything to get out of here.

Centre parcs?

Appleandcinnamon · 29/12/2017 20:23

Cotswolds

Howlongtillbedtime · 29/12/2017 20:24

Go to Snowdonia , so much space , lovely hotels or cottages to rent (especially now) and you can pop to Anglesey which is marvellous.

Sorry you married a dick though !

Maybe you just need to travel as far as a solicitor.

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 29/12/2017 20:26

What’s the budget? Are you travelling with children?

I would say however that if you are feeling so fed up, a night in a travelodge plus a long walk in an area near to where you live might be quite liberating.

Allthewaves · 29/12/2017 20:27

Budget and area?

yorkshires · 29/12/2017 20:28

Brighton

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 29/12/2017 20:29

The Lake District is lovely! :) Or Cambridge and Oxford are both beautiful for a city break if they're closer to home for you :)

QuestionableMouse · 29/12/2017 20:29

I'm going to Canterbury alone for a few days next year. It's a really pleasant place, lots to do and the premier inn/travelodge is in the city centre.

TheClacksAreDown · 29/12/2017 20:29

What is your budget? When and for how lng? Will you be driving?

BaldricksTrousers · 29/12/2017 20:30

If you're near the Southwest, Glastonbury is good for a day out. You can walk up the Tor, the Abbey is lovely and peaceful, and loads of kooky shops and restaurants. Lots of nice b&bs too.

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 20:30

Budget around £300/ 400
Not travelling with kids. Wish I could get a travel partner Sad

Something like this?

Or just find a cosy looking b&b?

youarenotkiddingme · 29/12/2017 20:36

Right now - as if your planning next few days I'd head south due to storm Dillon and snow.

Dorset have some lovely areas on the jarassic coastline.

Porpoises · 29/12/2017 20:40

You don't need a travel partner. I recommend booking a youth hostel, with a private bedroom if you prefer, then there are usually people around to chat to.

Do you want city or countryside? Will you have a car?

Edinburgh is lovely, as are York, Bath, Oxford, Cambridge.

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 20:42

Thank you all lovely people for your suggestion. I am so exhausted that I don't even have the energy to plan anything Sad.
Can't wait to get away from him

janetheimpaler · 29/12/2017 20:50

Don't advertise on social media for a travel companion - you could fall from the pot into the fire! Maybe go on some kind of retreat, spa experience, which will involve being part of a group?

roomsonfire · 29/12/2017 20:50

city break, try groupon or similar for last minute deals!

MiltonTheChristmasCockroach · 29/12/2017 20:51

Depends where you are really and how far you are willing to travel.

How long do you want to go for?

What activities do you enjoy?

Wales is lovely, so is Wiltshire.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 29/12/2017 20:52

Sorry you're in this situation OP, is there any chance you could start to make a break away for a new life?

In the meantime, would anything like this appeal?
www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/types-of-working-holiday
Not expensive and would give you something to do while meeting new people.

Maelstrop · 29/12/2017 20:54

City? Bath.

Countryside? Peak District.

gingerbreadmam · 29/12/2017 20:56

York - lots to do and full of friendly people lovely shops nice eateries and cosey pubs / bars.

Mellifera · 29/12/2017 20:58

Combine with a hobby? An existing one or something you want to try.

Yoga retreat or learn to do pottery for example.
