If you have three children what sex was each in order?

I have two and had two girls, I'm curious as to whether many people have two of the same sex and then one of the other.

Currently considering having a third but wondering how it would change the dynamics if baby was a boy so should I stick to two.

We have boy (big gap) girl, girl.

DIngdongmerryilyonhigh · 29/12/2017 16:35

Oh wow thanks everyone,

Everyone I know seems to either have all boys, all girls or alternate with GBG/BGB or their first is one sex and their second/third are the opposite i.e. GBB/BGG I don't know anyone who has had two of the same sex and then their third has been the opposite.

Girl, girl, boy

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 29/12/2017 16:35

I have boy, boy, girl.

One of my brothers also has boy, boy, girl.... the other brother has girl, girl, boy - the reverse.

Don’t think there’s any rhyme or reason to these things though Smile

Curry and Mardy it's called frivolous curiosity! If this thread is pointless to you then move on and read another one.

Boy boy girl

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 29/12/2017 16:37

I’m one of three; boy, girl, girl

DH is one of three; girl, boy, girl

SIL has three; boy, girl, boy

dramallamakarma · 29/12/2017 16:37

I only have 2 (G,B) but DH is one of 4... he's the youngest & the only boy.

Skowvegas · 29/12/2017 16:37

Girl, girl, boy here.

I think just having a third baby changes the dynamics massively, whatever the gender.

My third is very active compared to the other two, so the main dynamic he changed was that we get out and about much more than we might otherwise have done.

Bythepath · 29/12/2017 16:39

Three of the same born within 4 years. People I know with 3 either have all the same or the first two the same and the third different.

2tired2bewitty · 29/12/2017 16:39

Girl Girl Boy here.

MardyBra · 29/12/2017 16:42

Well you stated that you were "curious as to whether many people have two of the same sex and then one of the other".

The answer is approx 50% which saves you having to bother with the thread.

The answers you are going to receive probably aren't going to sufficient to be statistically representative anyway.

elliejjtiny · 29/12/2017 16:43

5 boys here. I read somewhere that if you have small age gaps you are more likely to have children of the same sex. My biggest age gap is 2y 9m between ds2 and ds3. I didn't have any sex preferences but I find all the old wives tales about how to choose which one you get interesting.

capricorn12 · 29/12/2017 16:44

Boy, 5 year gap then boy then 8 year gap then girl ( and I was delighted to finally get my girl) . Youngest was absolutely not planned but DH family are B,B big age gap G and his step siblings are exactly the same so my advice would be , if you have 2 the same and would like the opposite, leave a big gap. Of course this could all just be total coincidence!

VienesseWhirls · 29/12/2017 16:45

GBG

DenPerry · 29/12/2017 16:45

We were boy, boy, girl and my MIL had girl, girl, boy.

pinkflamingo121318 · 29/12/2017 16:45

2012 - boy
2013 - girl
Due 2018 - boy

My mum has 4 girls and MIL has 3 boys.

MardyBra · 29/12/2017 16:46

"my advice would be , if you have 2 the same and would like the opposite, leave a big gap. Of course this could all just be total coincidence!"

It's coincidence.

LucilleBluth · 29/12/2017 16:46

Boy
Boy
Girl

SimultaneousEquation · 29/12/2017 16:49

Mathematician here. You have to treat each child as an independent variable. Your chance of having a boy, given you have two girls, is 50%

Before you conceive your first child, if you know in advance that you will have exactly 3 children your family possibilities are (each with 1/8 possibility)

GGG
GGB
GBG
GBB
BGG
BGB
BBG
BBB

So there was a 1/8 chance, at the outset, of you ending up with GGB but now you already have GG you have a 1/2 chance of having GGB.

minipie · 29/12/2017 16:51

The threes I know:

GGB
GGB
BGG
BGG
GBB
GBG

Don't know any with all 3 the same (the families I know where the first 3 were all the same, have gone on to have a 4th...)

Pandoraslastchance · 29/12/2017 16:53

Three girls.

FuzzyCustard · 29/12/2017 16:53

I don't think I've made this up but aren't there some women who only "accept" (for want of a better word) one type of sperm cell? So they'll always have children of the same sex.

ElspethTascioni · 29/12/2017 16:55

Mathematics aren’t enough to say OP’s likelihood of having another girl - it isn’t straight 50/50 because there may be other factors at play. For example her DH might not produce male sperm - she might have 0% chance of producing a son!
