Argh! Family members arriving an hour early...

We're having family over for Boxing Day - meant to all be arriving at 1:30 but my cousin has announced she'll be an hour late and as we're all faffing around doing the last bits of the cooking, the doorbell goes and my uncle and his boyfriend are at the door. They live 15 minutes away, so have absolutely zero need to arrive this early! Plus, they're the most high maintenance of the lot in terms of needing attention and having zero social cues (or skills, tbh). If it was up to me, I'd have told them to go to the pub until we're ready, but since my Dad is hosting and he's too kind-hearted they're launching into long-winded stories.

I find social situations REALLY draining and this has already been a hard few days since my sister's in laws have been staying. Very tempted to spend the next half hour doing my makeup r e a l l y s l o w ly until other people are here.

Also, just because I'm gay as well doesn't mean we're on the same page about everything, you Brexit-voting irritants. Stop acting like we're best friends when you see me once a year.

I know IABU, but why oh why do the most annoying people arrive early?! Can't everyone just be on time?!

They arrived half an hour ago, btw - I'm not THAT harsh to complain about being 20 minutes early.... or at least not out loud ;)

Sympathies op. It is so rude. In my book if you are invited for 1.30 you arrive not once second earlier than 1.30

Why is your dad hosting at your house?

Maelstrop · 26/12/2017 13:11

You’re not even hosting, your dad is. What is your problem? Go down, pour people a drink, chill the fuck out. Give them jobs to do to help. Bet they won’t come early again. Be grateful you have family who want to see you. You sound like a stroppy teenager.

Pizza it’s his house, although my sister and I are doing the all the work! Dad invited an extra five people without telling us, so god knows if we’ll have enough food.

Maelstrop I wouldn’t mind as much if they could be put to work! Instead they’re just sitting there with their beer, ignoring the mad rush.

Just take up residence in the kitchen and leave Dad to chat to them

Now everyone is here and they are still standing in the living room while we’re in the living room, not talking to anyone else and complaining that there are too many people they thought I would be just them. FFS. It won’t stop them trying to stay until midnight though.
