Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

Normal routine is the 8th for us, but we usually take the tree and decs down on new years day, the thinking being that Christmas was last year, and we don't need them up again until the week before Christmas next time.

labazs · 26/12/2017 22:09

if i wasnt working ie home sitting until new years eve then at my daughters overnight on new years day the dam thing would be gone by now

kitnkaboodle · 26/12/2017 22:16

Why put a tree up if you can't wait to get 'the damn thing' down? Who made you put it up?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 22:19

Who are you asking kit?

ByeByePrivacy · 26/12/2017 22:45

Up first weekend in December, not down until 6th January. I love it, what's the point in all that effort for a week? Festive period is between Christmas and new year for me

DramaAlpaca · 26/12/2017 22:51

So this thread is still rumbling on Xmas Grin

As I said many pages ago I'm in the take it down after New Year camp.

But it seems my cat is with all the take it down on Boxing Day people as he's just pulled the thing down.

We were all in the kitchen, heard an enormous crash from the sitting room and the cat came flying in looking terrified. I don't know whether he jumped into it, or tried to use it as a scratching post. We found the tree lying on the ground, and baubles scattered everywhere.

Anyway, we've finally finished putting it all back together and it's definitely staying put until January after all that effort.

My mum always took it down Boxing Day. I think mine will come down tomorrow or next day day

ADishBestEatenCold · 26/12/2017 23:00

I don't put one up in the first place, so don't have to take one down.

browneyes77 · 26/12/2017 23:05

Ive never been one to take my tree down early. Plus I take so long to put my tree up that I can never be arsed taking it back down again, so it just stays up until I can be bothered to take it down again.

One year it stayed up until March Grin

ladymariner · 26/12/2017 23:23

Mine normally comes down on the 2nd but we have family visiting from New Years Day till the 3rd so it will come down then once they've left. Personally, I think its way too early to take it down before then but each to their own.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 26/12/2017 23:35

"PassiveAgressiveQueen Why does it matter?"

Because i dislike crappy excuses, do it because you hate them, because you are bored of them but don't make bad excuses. Find out why you are really doing something?

PasstheStarmix · 26/12/2017 23:39

Who was making an excuse?

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 27/12/2017 00:35

I asked if the small house person took everything down, I don't know as nobody answered my question, just one person asking why i asked, so i was explaining why I asked.

mishfish · 27/12/2017 00:46

Want it gone tomorrow. Sick of the site of it now. A few years ago I took it down on Xmas day when my son had gone to bed Blush

Ineke · 27/12/2017 01:22

Our tree only goes up Christmas Eve so will stay up till 12th night or the day before. It's tiny bit nice to have up on NYE as the lights are pretty. Out of interest, I was told by my grown up kids that coloured lights are a big no no. Has to be white lights for styleish mode, is that so?

If you want to take it down, its not too early. Personally I haven't got the time to fiddle with it as we still have a stream of guests...so it will probably stay til we get fed up. I'm not superstitious, so if its not down by 12th night thats ok too.
