Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

Mine will be down New Year’s Day, so back to normal before I go back to work on the 2nd.

ChristmasAtSquiffanys · 26/12/2017 10:59

I'm taking mine down today.
Hooray!

Batteriesallgone · 26/12/2017 10:59

I think Julie is trying to get in the Daily Mail Xmas Wink

‘My neighbours took their tree down early and destroyed MY Christmas!!’

There are people in my street who have had no Christmas decorations up at all, where are my pearls...

MexicanBob · 26/12/2017 11:01

If the snow reaches us, ours will be cut up and on the living room open fire tonight!

KateReddy · 26/12/2017 11:02

I don't think your main issue is space Hmm

Well we put it up at the very end of November as DS1 was asking for it every day!

RubyLux · 26/12/2017 11:04

Stop being so silly Julie. You sound like a sanctimonious trout.

SauvignonBlanche · 26/12/2017 11:05

Twelfth Night here but we didn't put ours up until the 23rd . It seems to be the people who put theirs up in the November are the ones who want rid by Boxing day.

Having 12 days of Christmas is more manageable.

RubyLux · 26/12/2017 11:05

MexicanBob - that sounds fabulous.

KateReddy · 26/12/2017 11:07

Have you been on the Baileys already Julie? Xmas Hmm

WanderingJules · 26/12/2017 11:08

Christmas is for most people about family and love, you don’t need a tree for that

This^

It's a tough time of year for some let's not forget

And this ^

Parker231 · 26/12/2017 11:14

The Christmas tree is just one of many Christmas traditions. Most of us develop our own over the years and are precious to our families. Today we’re doing another of our traditions - the girls are off to the sales, the men to golf and then we meet up at a pub later. It won’t appeal to everyone but is special to us because we enjoy it as something we’ve done for years.

etap · 26/12/2017 11:28

We never put one up Grin

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2017 11:30

Well you have not had a proper Christmas etap. I hope you didn't open any presents as this can only be done if there is a fully decorated tree up. Tsk. Grin

Put one up immediately and don't take it down til the 6/1.

DeadButDelicious · 26/12/2017 11:37

I feel genuinely sorry for them that they are missing making the most of this wonderful season, with their tree at its heart. Removing your tree early rips the heart and all the joy from the festivities.

Oh dear lord that is the biggest pile of bobbins I have ever heard.* If a tree isn't the heart of your festivities then it's you I feel sorry for.*

Also...

^That.

DeadButDelicious · 26/12/2017 11:37

If a tree is, not isn't.

yawning801 · 26/12/2017 11:39

Mine comes down on 2nd January. Is that a bit late? Blush

pinkflamingo121318 · 26/12/2017 11:43

I did Boxing Day one year when my children were smaller.

At 4 and 5, I want their Christmas to last as long as possible so will be taking it down around NY.

We put it up around mid November because they wouldn't stop bugging me.

But it isn't in our way at all, and we don't have many other decorations. A few things on the fireplace etc.

juliesaway · 26/12/2017 12:00

I don’t think people should be allowed to take their trees down early - councils should refuse to take them in the rubbish before 6 Jan and large fines given to those who clutter pavements with them. That might encourage people to keep them up for the appropriate season.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2017 12:03

julies you are making me laugh. Grin How about if they take it down and put it in the garden until the bin men can take them? Grin

I have never seen a tree on a pavement though TBF.

NoFucksImAQueen · 26/12/2017 12:04

Iv done it now because we're away from tomorrow till the 29th so it make sense to do it now

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/12/2017 12:08

julie you’re talking absolute and unadulterated shite.

I’m an atheist. I celebrate a social holiday with my family. I don’t celebrate the birth of a man I don’t believe to have religious significance. I don’t have any fucks to give about the twelve supposed days of Christmas. I share some gifts with my friends too, because I quite like them. I do all of this because I have the choice to do so, not because it’s a mandatory interlude in December and January.

I’d offer you a grip, but I’ll be fucked if I’m shifting out to Halfords to buy a multipack for you. As stated above, this season is for friends and family and you count as neither.

I think you should celebrate Christmas properly, or not at all. I don’t see what’s so offensive about wanting people to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas - more fun for everyone after all!

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2017 12:15

Properly, or not at all. Grin
