To be annoyed to wake up on Christmas morning to 'sale now on' emails

KatyPairie · 25/12/2017 08:06

I haven't even opened the last lot of stuff I bought!

Idea of not even one day off shopping is just depressing, isn't it?

Don't look at your Email on Christmas morning!

Ifailed · 25/12/2017 08:12

I take it you won't be watching any telly either today, OP?

ilovesooty · 25/12/2017 08:14

Presumably you opted into marketing updates?

KatyPairie · 25/12/2017 08:16

It's the 'shop now or miss out ' pressure of starting sales today

MadisonAvenue · 25/12/2017 08:16

Barclaycard emailed my statement/bill to me on Christmas Day a couple of years ago. Now THAT annoyed me!

Ifailed · 25/12/2017 08:20

There is expected to be over £1 billion of on-line purchases made today, so presumably the emails are working. Not everyone will spend their day stuffing themselves whilst watching a 7 year old have a tantrum because they didn't get everything that wanted, stuff that people bought for them?

IAmAShitHotLawyer · 25/12/2017 08:20

Yabu to check email on Xmas day.

ilovesooty · 25/12/2017 08:21

You don't have to log on to your account to look at your statement do you?

British Gas sent me a text half an hour ago. So what?

KatyPairie · 25/12/2017 08:24

Emails keep me in touch with real people too!

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 25/12/2017 08:26

Use gmail - they’ll get filtered into the “promotions” folder & you don’t need to look at them.

SimonBridges · 25/12/2017 08:27

I got woken up at 6am by a text from Amex telling me my card balance.

I don’t mind the sales starting online on Xmas day. In fact I shopped in both the Seasalt and Fat Face sales yesterday after the shops shut.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 25/12/2017 08:41

Well...I'm in Oz and it's 7.09 pm here....just got back from MIL's to four emails from a client wanting to know when I can edit a 30 page document for her.

Hmm

Is what I thought.

LolitaLempicka · 25/12/2017 08:46

Why are you looking at emails on Christmas day? It is still yesterday where I am, I don't even pick up my iPad on Xmas day!

Lifeisbeautiful2 · 25/12/2017 08:54

Boots website has crashed already under the traffic..

Mimimouse4 · 25/12/2017 09:19

I was thinking the exact same thing OP! I think it's really wrong x

LemonShark · 25/12/2017 09:57

YABU, nobody makes you check your emails by 10am on xmas morning or to subscribe to marketing emails! If you go to the bottom of each one there'll be a link where you can unsubscribe and stop receiving marketing emails.

By midday a lot of people are lazily hanging around playing with their phones with gift cards or cash given to them burning a hole in their pockets. It's a perfect day for retailers: lots of people suddenly come into some discretionary income intended for fripperies, and lots of those people are sat around bored not at work. Don't blame them for chancing it. It's caught your attention!

southeastdweller · 25/12/2017 10:04

YABU. The companies are doing what they have to do to make money. I take it you haven't heard of opting out of marketing emails?

WhatWot · 25/12/2017 10:14

I took advantage of the sales already, people do descend like locusts. I saw some lipsticks on JohnLewis and within half an hour while I was cooking dinner all 15 colours were gone!

I do however think it's wrong. Ideally sales should start on the 27th. 25th and 26th should be for family with shops closed.

Reallytired17 · 25/12/2017 10:16

It annoyed me too.

sooty the opt in thing is a bit misleading. I bought a coat from Boden two years ago. I still get daily emails. Grin

pandarific · 25/12/2017 10:32

I’m an utter tightwad, I’ve had my eye on a few things and I’m waiting until next week to go on eBay and see if anyone has had them as an unwanted gift! Grin

But as I understand it, companies are starting sales earlier to attempt to make up for a slump.

Bluelonerose · 25/12/2017 11:10

Yanbu

I've had a few. Not checked them but they appear on top of my phone so I can see them.

They do seem a bit Hmm but tbh I just ignore them.

SimonBridges · 25/12/2017 12:15

We have a no presents for adults rule now.
I only got presents from DH. It’s brilliant.

ChelleDawg2020 · 25/12/2017 12:24

YABU. Who cares? Spam and advertising general doesn't take a holiday. If people don't click on the adverts or buy from the companies doing the advertising, the business will falter and perhaps won't be around to bother you in a few years.

Nobody forces you to buy, and any reputable company will allow you to opt out of advertising emails.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/12/2017 12:25

I'm totally fine with online sales but going to shops would be nuts

I've bought some stuff from Fortnums BlushGrin
which was about a sixth of the normal price

BumWad · 25/12/2017 12:27

YABU

I’ve been sale shopping since last night
