1kg gammon delivered instead of 2.5kg - how far can it go?

Help

Do I need to brave the shops tomorrow to buy another gammon? Tesco have replaced my 2.5kg gammon with a barely 1kg gammon.

Fuck! It's to feed 6-8 people on Christmas eve and was hopefully going to be left overs for anyone who wanted some Christmas DAy too.

Somehow it only looks big enough to feed me, hungry horace...

Yes, you do. Sorry. Sad

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 22/12/2017 20:59

I think you’re going to need to go out. What a pain. Check the opening hours and go v early

cakeymccakington · 22/12/2017 21:00

I would ring Tesco and point out that it's really not a very sensible replacement and that you'd like them to deliver another one

babyturtles · 22/12/2017 21:03

Ooh never they usually do a fantastic job, wouldn't like to complain.

Thanks, will have to get up early tomorrow!

That's not going to go round 6-8 people. Why on earth didn't they supply 2 or 3? I'd give customer services a Wee call. However if the weight selection box was 1
Kg - 2.5kg, then they are unfortunately right, in future in the substitutions box you can leave a note along lines of as big as possible please?
I'm sure the shops will be fine in the morning. The co-op had lovely Gammons when I was in.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2017 21:08

Iceland have 1.6 kg gammons for a fiver!

x2boys · 22/12/2017 21:18

Do you havec a market nearby i buy my Gammon joints in the market very good quality normally .

Littlebelina · 22/12/2017 21:46

Our Asda still had loads today (seem to have just restocked the Xmas food but everything else was gone)so fingers crossed you can pick one up

mumonashoestring · 22/12/2017 21:49

What a pain - but yes, unless you're an expert at carving wafer thin, you'll need more. Sainsburys have theirs at half price at the moment if you have one nearby - I got a 3kg joint today for £12.

Kbear · 22/12/2017 21:49

half price at Sainsburys - still two days to go - they have loads

idontlikealdi · 22/12/2017 21:49

Sainsbury’s gave me a 1kg gammon instead of 2.2kg. Driver said it was damaged so we got to keep it and got refunded and I went to Waitrose and bought a 2.2kg and froze the small one.

We are feeding seven and I wanted leftovers so 1kg was never going to work.

Ethylred · 22/12/2017 21:59

Give them extra drink vegetables and blame Tesco. Nobody with any sense of humour will care.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/12/2017 22:00

This is why I never bother with internet shopping. Anyone with half a brain would send 2 or 3 if you wanted 2.5 kg gammon but they were only 1 kilo each. There is little point getting your shopping delivered if its not right and you have to go out and buy extras yourself.

Either they employ halfwit pickers or the rules on use of common sense vs following store policy are so strict that there will always be something lacking, which doesn't always matter but it does if you planned to give your guests more than a wafer of gammon and wanted leftovers.

RB68 · 22/12/2017 22:00

hams in sainsbos half price at the mo if that helps

missmapp · 22/12/2017 22:00

Tescos did the same to me today. I am going to Sainsbury's in the morning. May try Waitrose though.

ItsChristmoose · 22/12/2017 22:02

5 people max would get an okay helping. I think you need more.

safariboot · 22/12/2017 22:59

Got any other meat or fish you could serve as well, to make a bit of a mixed grill thing?

randomthoughts · 22/12/2017 23:09

I'm pissed off with Tesco too, order arriving tomorrow and they've removed all my nice veg as no longer available. Frantically trying to find alternatives to save me a trip to the supermarket. Waitrose next year!

cattreats · 22/12/2017 23:13

Tesco once did this to me 2 hours before I was due to have 12 people over for lunch. I phone customer service and they actually got the manager of my local Tesco to drive over a replacement and refunded me the cost of the whole lot. It's definitely worth complaining about it.

Bloopbleep · 22/12/2017 23:25

If mumsnet can make a small chicken last a week, why not a gammon?

GrimDamnFanjo · 23/12/2017 15:34

If you specifically ordered 2.5 kg and not a range then they should have tried to make the size up.
We had some odd subs today but the weight was matched eg 1 maple syrup 400ml was matched by x2 200 ml of some syrup hybrid. Not what I ordered by not a chance muleteer disaster.

AgentProvocateur · 23/12/2017 15:40

We could swap - DH got a 2.5kg One and it says “feeds 20” on the wrapper. There will be six of us Hmm

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/12/2017 15:45

Sainsbury's have loads and big ones too

Picked up a massive one in Morrisons too

profpoopsnagle · 23/12/2017 16:29

A 750g feeds 5 of us for a dinner (1 youngish child). So I think it could stretch if there's plenty of sides and if not everyone is an adult but there won't be any leftovers.

CheekyRedhead · 23/12/2017 16:34

Our Tesco order came today. Only a few substitutions. They doubled the size of beef I ordered so I guess it's luck of the draw and dependant on stock. Maybe you had the very last gallon so they could give a second?
Did get an extra broccoli in error which the driver said to keep
