AIBU to be dying to give DH his xmas present

I was puzzling and puzzling for ages, was thinking of a cookery class we could do together, or a night at the place we got engaged, but still hadn’t decided.

‘Til Tuesday, when amazing colleague told me about half price flights to Thailand. Called his dad (who he works for) to check the dates and got them for the pair of us for two weeks in May. Grin Grin

I have got him the lonely planet guide, and have printed off the flight itinerary and put in front cover, and wrapped that. We’re flying off to visit family this year and it’s going to be a bit stressy for various reasons, so I’m going to wait until we’re at the bar in the airport on 24th, and give it to him then.

I’m crap at keeping secrets and am DYING, its killing me. Hangover 2 was on the other night and I had to restrain myself.

Also, did you know that if you have a shared google calendar for sensible household things with your other half, google will helpfully ADD THINGS LIKE FLIGHT DETAILS to said calendar?? Angry Cue frantic googling on how to delete them before he saw it.

Just to add, neither of us have ever been to Asia before... we had been discussing going to Greece this summer and with trhe cheap flights this will cost pretty much the same.

Wow what an incredible gift! If you ever decide to leave him please consider me as first reserve!

Have a great Christmas and come back to update us once he's opened it at the airport bar!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/12/2017 17:01

Google is a big spoilsport.
I keep on getting ads for an online shop that I have never used, and DH had had a parcel with their logo delivered, so I think I'm getting a hot water bottle shaped like a dildo... Confused

pandarific · 22/12/2017 17:10

WTF Breakfast?? What is this website? This I have to see!

TheMamaYo · 22/12/2017 18:17

Oh I got bil one of those spec holders too! 😂 Love it.

OP, what an AWESOME gift! Where will you be staying? Excited for you!

Fellia · 22/12/2017 18:32

OMG OP I am so jealous! What an amazing present.

And well done for keeping it quiet so far. I would not be able to!

pandarific · 22/12/2017 18:49

Xmas Grin thanks everyone! I don’t know where we’re staying or anything, I thought it would be a nice thing we could plan together depending on what he fancies - it’ll be a good hideout from xmas family stressiness too, we can just bugger off and look at beaches!

It is a bit excessive, presents would usually be more in the jigsaw puzzle territory, but I was feeling flush with a new job (which comes with a bonus) so thought why not?!

Arrrrghh I can’t wait!

That is super exciting!

I had to sit through a long story from dp about his brother trying to get tickets to see their favourite childhood band who are touring, but they are all sold out, knowing I have got him tickets for christmas. I was bursting to tell him!

crabb · 24/12/2017 02:24

You’re a lovely person Pandarific. It’s the best feeling figuring out an amazing gift for someone you love. Enjoy his reaction!

HerRoyalNotness · 24/12/2017 03:12

That's a brilliant gift!

One of my friends surprised his wife with a trip. She'd always wanted to see a ballet. He apologised as he handed over tickets to see an opera instead. In.Paris. They live in Canada. My DH has never come close to such a wonderful gift and never will.

pandarific · 24/12/2017 09:56

Just left in laws, en route to airport. Have spilled the beans to MIL and FIL when DH was distracted, they’ve been grinning like loons, but the secret is safe so far.

Have received instructions from DM re: duty free Baileys purchasing, then off to the bar!

Awwwww, I love hearing about thoughtful presents from people - the Canada trip and the concert tickets are so sweet!

How did it go? Xmas Grin

Shakey15000 · 24/12/2017 12:48

Pandarific ME TOO!

I am notoriously crap at keeping secrets and have bit my lip more times this last month than ever.

Not as exciting a destination, have booked DH and I a 3 night break in Prague for Feb. To go the day before his birthday but I simply can't hold out that long! So there's a Lonely Planet guide wrapped and hidden in the tree Smile

pandarific · 24/12/2017 13:22

Awwww nice one shakey!

It was lovely. No later had the man put two glasses of bubbles in front of us I was on it like a recent op’s colleagues on a buffet. I think though I was remarkably cool as I casually asked ‘so will I give you your present then?’

He was oblivious, no idea whatsoever - just ‘it’s a book..?’

Aghhh and then the look on his little face when he opened it and saw the cover and worked it out! I might have had something in my eye. Quick dash to plane, and just touched down in home country, avec litre bottle of Baileys for DM.

Happy Christmas one and all!

Brilliant gift, have a great Christmas!

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 13:28

Lovely thread. Have an amazing time when you go.

Therestisstillunwritten · 24/12/2017 13:53

Can I ask what airline you booked the flights with?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/12/2017 14:23

Aww that’s lovely. Merry Christmas. Xmas Grin

pandarific · 24/12/2017 17:04

Therestisstillunwritten it’s Turkish airlines, but tbh the best thing ever and how I found them is a website called Jacks Flight Club www.jacksflightclub.co.uk. He does free roundups every week of really cheap fares, either just sales or sometime error fares where the price has been put in wrong. You can pay for a premium subscription too if you want where you just get more emails, but the base one is free.

Lovely colleague told me about it, it’s well worth having a look!
