To ask how to see the back of DHs throat?

DH has manflu a rotten bug which includes a very sore throat. He's wondering if it's tonsillitis.

I bought a throat spray for him, but he can't get it to the back of his throat so it isn't working. I've looked to see what's going on back there, but can't see past his tongue!

He can't roll his tongue and so he also can't flatten the tongue out so I can see past to his tonsils.

Any suggestions?? I've tried to use a butter knife flat implement to push his tongue down, but it's not helped.

Say ‘argh’

Get him to say "ah"

Stick it out and say ahhh. Normally relaxes it

Can he stick his tongue out?

Also if he isn’t teetotal then a glass of 🥃 will probably kill off bugs in a more pleasant way.

And breathe through his mouth

He's gone to bed while I'm typing. Hmph.

I'll try the "aah" thing when I go upstairs. He's had a few sherbets each night this week, but given he was shaking and shivering on Tuesday night with 3 duvets on him, he's definitely been unwell.

There’s also a bit of a distinct smell that seems to follow with tonsillitis. I know it sounds rank but have a sniff!
