To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

University students used to do this sort of thing. And now they're getting outraged about it. Funny old world.

Anyway, the outrage has got them masses of publicity. One woman reported them to the police. But she accidentally tweeted Kent Police in the USA.

MiltonTheChristmasCockroach · 21/12/2017 21:03

I haven't RTFT (shoot me fuckers) but I assumed this was a joke by something like The Lads Bible.

Seems it's not?!

Nah, I'm no prude but this really isn't appropriate in any way tbh. Teabagging probably freaks out quite a few adults including me (baggy balls dropped in my face? No thank you Matron)

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 21:05

Grin I saw that earlier, as I said some of the replies and Twitter are even funnier than the original.
When they said along the lines of "We're in the USA, you might want to try someone more local..."

MiltonTheChristmasCockroach · 21/12/2017 21:06

Reminds me of Trump tweeting Theresa May Scrivener of Bognor about Britain First Smile

Henshx · 21/12/2017 21:13

This is awful.

If they wanted to make a dirty joke the doll could be wearing a pink tshirt and 'holding' the teabag. The choice of tshirt here and the submissive pose of the doll sends a completely different, offensive message.

Merry Christmas to all our female customers Confused

That was the first thing that popped into my head too Smile

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 21:15

Merry Christmas to all our female customers

Yeah, quite a lot of females are finding it funny. Humour is subjective.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 21/12/2017 21:20

I think someone int heir marketing team is having a breakdown Hmm. Not funny, vom inducing. a bit like Throwback Thursday to 1970's.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 21:28

To be honest the joke itself is not particularly funny. But the outrage at a bit of a silly off colour joke is. Tweeting the police FFS. Middle class women who wouldn't dream of crossing the threshold of Poundland calling a therefore pointless boycott. And the whole time playing right into their hands by ensuring maximum publicity.

And FFS. People saying 'how do I explain this to my kid, won't someone pleeeeease think of the children'. If your kids are unsupervised on a site with rampant paedophiles, Nazis, anti semites and porn the last thing you need to worry about is an elf with a fucking teabag.

IamalsoSpartacus · 21/12/2017 21:32

I'm middle class, I shopped at Poundland and damn right I'm not shopping there any more. It's fucking vile.

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 21:35

That's what making it so funny! Grin The elf, apart from an initial Shock reaction and leave it there, that's enough.
Twitter and MN today though is absolutely insane and complete comedy gold in itself.
What with the outraged replies and the subsequent comments to the outraged replies Grin

gamerchick · 21/12/2017 21:35

Someone tweeted the police? Fuck me man 😂

Thehairthebod · 21/12/2017 21:41

Meh, I'm much more of a Home Bargains girls anyway.

It is vile and offensive, but tweeting the cops is a bit much!

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 21:42

Honestly Spartacus, you're doing their job for them. It's like a teenager who uses swear words to shock their parents or get a tattoo. Outrage is what they want because it proves how much edgier, cooler and more dangerous they are. A roll of the eyes a tut and 'silly boys' is much more effective.

As it is all these 'outraged of Tunbridge Wells' are just part of the joke because a main part of it is demonstrating just how naughty they are and sending people off in self indignant froths. Because, face it, there are little things more entertaining than an indignant yet impotent middle aged person having a hissy fit. It will play wonderfully with their core customers.

I don't think a lot of people complaining realise that they are the joke. They're the kind of people lots of people really love seeing wound up. And let's face it, it's not hard.

bakewelltarty · 21/12/2017 21:44

It's just not funny. I really can't see how anyone would find it 'genius'. Some are easily pleased I suppose.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 21:45

www.thedrum.com/news/2017/12/21/poundland-social-team-doesnt-face-sack-over-teabag-tweet-part-lewd-2553-marketing

23.5 MILLION pounds? Surely not? I couldn't read the source (Business Insider) because I didn't care enough to turn my adblock off.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 21:46

Hahahaha.

Never mind.

I misread it.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 21:46

Still think they overpaid though.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/12/2017 21:46

That is grim as fuck, and all the ads are just horrific.

I feel really sorry for any female members of staff who will no doubt be getting the ads quoted at them verbatim by random leering men for bantz...

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 21:47

EXACTLY Pumpkin. And they're sending themselves up. Because at the end of the day it's a fucking elf and a Barbie doll in an obscene pose. The sort of thing you snigger at when you're nine.

But from the reaction you'd think they'd live action tweeted Donald Trump doing something unspeakable to Hilary Clinton with that bust of Winston Churchill in the Oval Office.

They ARE the joke.

IamalsoSpartacus · 21/12/2017 21:47

As has been discussed upthread, would you take the same view if the dolls were portraying a lynching? I'm not indignant, I'm angry that sexual assault is being portrayed as ho ho ho what a jape. I'm not impotent, I'm a consumer and I will take my (albeit small) money elsewhere as I'm not interested in contributing to the profits of a company that has adopted sexually explicit material depicting the degradation of women as an advertising strategy.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 21:48

Now if they'd outraged Netmums they'd be fucked. Mumsnet - I bet they're bloody delighted.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/12/2017 21:49

I thought the ad was depressing - the comments underneath it just make me despair about the state of humanity Sad

VladmirsPoutine · 21/12/2017 21:50

@Tessliketrees WTH are you on about? It cost £25.53

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 21:51
