To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

As a black woman, I find it seriously fucking offensive that you want to compare a racist attack with a sex act. A sex act that is generally performed by two consenting adults. Hey over yourselves. Or shall I phone the police next time my partner sticks his dick in my mouth.

WinchestersInATardis · 21/12/2017 20:36

They've deliberately given the female doll a feminist 'power' shirt and then 'hilariously' made a joke about having male genitals rubbed in her face. Misogynistic and just plain nasty.

It would be bad enough without the shirt, but that makes it very clear that it's about taking women down a peg or two, and not just a crass joke about consensual tea bagging. Someone picked that shirt for the doll. It's quite deliberate.

And for those saying that it's okay because it's just dolls, does that mean you'd be happy to have Poundland do any kind of 'joke' with dolls? A racist one? Or homophobic? A rape joke, maybe?

BarbarianMum · 21/12/2017 20:38

What is it about the attitude of the female doll that says consent to you Roman?

WinchestersInATardis · 21/12/2017 20:38

I'm not sure it is obviously consenting. That's at least part of the issue. The 'power shirt makes it quite clear that there's a bigger commentary here than just a crass joke about consensual sex.

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 20:38

I think it's funny

If you're on Twitter it's even funnier Grin

DeleteOrDecay · 21/12/2017 20:39

Oh Jesus get a life. No way the same.

Why is sexism and misogyny ok but racism isn't?

CoconutGal · 21/12/2017 20:39

Hahaha!

Johnnycomelately1 · 21/12/2017 20:40

You were Japanese last week. Make your mind up.

Backingvocals · 21/12/2017 20:40

If this looked in any way like a mutual sex act it would be an inept comparison. Then it would just be a smutty seaside postcard kind of thing. Not on brand given what they sell and to whom and not funny but ok.

But it’s clearly an act of domination (her t shirt, face invisible, gleeful male figure). It’s a real up yours to women like my mum who shop in Poundland. She wouldn’t understand it because she’s 77 and not into lad bantz and then she’d be irritated.

RomansRevenge · 21/12/2017 20:41

You’re seriously asking me about the body language of a fucking doll?
It’s no wonder no one takes feminism seriously when shit like this is spouted.

RomansRevenge · 21/12/2017 20:41

I’m mixed race Hmm

Backingvocals · 21/12/2017 20:42

You do know the dolls were chosen and dressed and posed like that don’t you? By adults communicating a message ?

BarbarianMum · 21/12/2017 20:42

Yes I'm very serious. Backingvocals post is spot on.

Johnnycomelately1 · 21/12/2017 20:43

I’m mixed race

Course you are.

DeleteOrDecay · 21/12/2017 20:44

So you're outraged at the idea of dolls portraying a racist act but it's no big deal when it's a sexist one?

LemonysSnicket · 21/12/2017 20:44

I think it’s a bit uncouth tbh, But hopefully kids would just think the elf is being ailly or associate it with teabagging on COD

RomansRevenge · 21/12/2017 20:44

It’s just a Barbie that someone has bought. Probably the first one they saw on the shelf.

johnny can Japanese and Black people not have kids together or something? Would it blow your mind if I told you I grew up in Russia too!

BarbarianMum · 21/12/2017 20:46

Course it is love. And the guys with the white hoods are just off to a Semana Santa parade.

RomansRevenge · 21/12/2017 20:47

Whatever. You carry on being offended over nothing.

iBiscuit · 21/12/2017 20:47

I can't believe I'm about to write this, but the point of this elf thing is that he gets up to mischief. Here though the doll isn't aware of the naughty trick that's being played on her.

I quite happily have dp's balls in my gob at a time of my choosing, but then I'm participating. The doll isn't. That's what's so off with this - it's basically depicting a sexual assault as a bit of mischievous fun.

Careful, brains will explode.

CalorieTowers · 21/12/2017 20:49

Poor taste IMO - not funny and whilst I have shopped there on the odd occasion before I will consciously make an effort not to shop there in the future if they think this is acceptable.

RestingGrinchFace · 21/12/2017 20:49

I suppose that they are targeting a particular denominator of society but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up loosing customers over this more than gaining them. Somebody should notify the guardian-university students will boycott en made

VladmirsPoutine · 21/12/2017 20:50

Maybe it comes down to individual values. Compassion and consideration aren't finite; it's possible to care about many issues simultaneously but not always in equal amount.
