I've name changed a lot since then, but this time last year I posted on AIBU about uninviting DBro and SIL for drinks on Christmas day evening.

The jist of it was that DH and I had just found out we could not have children, and DBro and SIL had just found out they were having a baby a couple of months after they had met. SIL was being particularly insensitive about it and said some pretty nasty things that upset me, and I didn't want to spend my Christmas day in tears.

So for those of you who remember, here's the update:
DNiece was born in the summer. She is a beautiful little ray of sunshine and I adore her.
SIL is still not my favourite person but I have put the past behind me and moved on and actually enjoy her company now, and we are building the foundations for a very good and very positive friendship.
DH and I decided to adopt and bring our own baby home in two weeks.

I look back on this time last year and cannot believe how much has changed. I'm about 5 minutes away from being a #feelingblessed wanker Grin

That is a lovely story, what a fantastic difference a year makes. Wishing you a wonderful 2018

spiderlight · 21/12/2017 17:59

Congratulations - such a lovely update!

Papergirl1968 · 21/12/2017 18:04

Americano the problem I find with the adoption part of mumsnet is that it’s primarily people who are adopting or have little ones newly placed. It doesn’t seem to cater for people like me whose adopted dds are now teenagers and have just traced birth family on bloody Facebook!

ScarlettSahara · 21/12/2017 18:05

I didn’t see your original post. We had difficulty too & I can totally get your heartbreak. I am so glad that things have turned around for you. How wonderful that you will be a mummy & great that you came back to update. I often wonder about posters whose story I have followed.
Merry Christmas 🎅🏻👼

Marylou2 · 21/12/2017 18:05

Absolutely lovely. Thanks for sharing this. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Springprim · 21/12/2017 18:12

13 months is definitely still a baby! Congratulations, what a beautiful story of forgiveness, joy & friendship all rolled into one. I hope you have an amazing life with your precious little boy!

Paper don't want to derail thread but just wanted to say I empathise.
I was warning SS about social media back in the days of MySpace and was met with blank faces.
Sigh.
Hope it works out ok for you. Flowers

Killerfairy · 21/12/2017 18:20

Fantastic Star

Basseting · 21/12/2017 18:22

This is SUCH a wonderful outcome for you all.
Most especially the small person you will be welcoming into your lives.
Happy Christmas (and what an amazing one you'll have next year too!)

ApplesTheHare · 21/12/2017 18:23

blogask · 21/12/2017 18:24

beautiful post - congrats and so glad you were able to move on!!

mineallmine · 21/12/2017 18:31

Gorgeous post, what a lovely happy beginning. My dd was 14 months when we adopted her and was very much a baby. I wore her in a sling for 3 months! Lovely times are ahead for you.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 21/12/2017 18:41

Congratulations and all the very best for you and your family xxx

CrikeyPeg · 21/12/2017 18:45

A lovely update! Congratulations Flowers Looking forward to next year's update :)

I was adopted when I was six days old. My Mum traveled up on a bus to the big smoke to pick me up, at the beginning of the trip home the young lad sitting next to her asked if he could have a wee hold and held me the whole way home (six hour journey) Star

werewolfhowls · 21/12/2017 18:45

How wonderful congratulations mummy to be. Have a great Christmas

Papergirl1968 · 21/12/2017 18:56

Thanks, MrsDV. I don’t want to scare the Op off so won’t go into detail but it’s very difficult and I hate the Adoption Uk forum since they changed the format a couple of years ago.

Redspidergirl22 · 21/12/2017 19:04

Have never posted before but coming out of hiding to say, Congratulations (flowers)

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 21/12/2017 19:08

Paper and any other teen adopters on this thread. Come and join my new thread on the adopters board. (And I agree about the AUK format. I found MN when they screwed it up).

helsinkihelen · 21/12/2017 19:08

Congratulations on your new baby!!! And thank you for coming back to share such a wonderful update. I'm glad you have been able to move on from your sil's insensitivity. Babies do bring so much love with them, I'm glad your niece did as will your baby too. X

Summerof85 · 21/12/2017 19:13

Congratulations, wishing you all the best x
