I've name changed a lot since then, but this time last year I posted on AIBU about uninviting DBro and SIL for drinks on Christmas day evening.

The jist of it was that DH and I had just found out we could not have children, and DBro and SIL had just found out they were having a baby a couple of months after they had met. SIL was being particularly insensitive about it and said some pretty nasty things that upset me, and I didn't want to spend my Christmas day in tears.

So for those of you who remember, here's the update:
DNiece was born in the summer. She is a beautiful little ray of sunshine and I adore her.
SIL is still not my favourite person but I have put the past behind me and moved on and actually enjoy her company now, and we are building the foundations for a very good and very positive friendship.
DH and I decided to adopt and bring our own baby home in two weeks.

I look back on this time last year and cannot believe how much has changed. I'm about 5 minutes away from being a #feelingblessed wanker Grin

No YOU'RE crying at the lovely update.

yellowDahlia · 20/12/2017 12:04

Lovely update! I remember your thread from last year. I'm really glad things have turned around for you.

My own DB and SIL have just adopted a little girl a couple of months older than your LO - they've also spent the past year in the process but this Christmas is going to be so happy and #blessed for them too!

notfromstepford · 20/12/2017 12:04

Fantastic update - congratulations Grin

Whatthefunk · 20/12/2017 12:30

DMCWelshCakes · 20/12/2017 12:58

Congratulations! Dreadful outbreak of allergies around here...

Eliza9917 · 20/12/2017 13:13

DH and I decided to adopt and bring our own baby home in two weeks.

Sorry to derail, but how does that work? I thought it would take years to adopt so haven't looked in to this yet (- it might be something we need to consider).

mirialis · 20/12/2017 13:15

Eliza - she explains at the beginning of the thread.

mirialis · 20/12/2017 13:15

Lovely update OP - Merry Christmas!

Commuterface · 20/12/2017 13:18

And now I'm in tears OP. What a beautiful way to end your year. I wish you every price of love and happiness in bringing your new baby home. Just imagine the excitement for next Christmas 💕

Commuterface · 20/12/2017 13:22

Sorry piece not price!

FeelingGuiltyAlready · 20/12/2017 13:25

People are actually crying? My word.

Nice story op, hope you all have a lovely 2018.

peanut2017 · 20/12/2017 13:25

What a lovely update OP. Thrilled for you. Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/12/2017 13:26

Eliza, it does take time to adopt, how long it takes varies for lots of reasons. The first time it took us about 10 months for the assessment and then we waited another two years to be matched with DS. The second time the assessment was quicker and we were matched with DD almost immediately.

mousemoose · 20/12/2017 13:34

So happy for you, OP. Wee speck in the eye here. I’m just going to go right ahead and do it

Eliza9917 · 20/12/2017 13:34

Ok thanks

Merry Christmas!!! This has melted my little frozen heart Xmas Grin. Congratulations, enjoy every second with your beautiful baby. Flowers

loopdeloo · 20/12/2017 15:00

Eliza - there is a BBC podcast called "The Adoption", and in that I think the couple were able to adopt in less than a year, although I'm sure there are many who have to wait years too. Might be worth a listen if you are thinking about adopting.

Wow, OP. I do remember your thread and I really understood where you were coming from.

Am so delighted for you. I really hope to be posting a similar happy update myself in a year or two.

Congratulations!

IBurnToast · 20/12/2017 23:03

Just to add my congratulations and wish you and your new baby a wonderful and happy life together. At 13 months you will be lucky enough to experience everything raising a child involves. It's also lovely that you have built relationships with family and have a niece for your baby to grow up with. Enjoy. Nice to read posts that have a smile factor.
