To buy chocolates for family members this Christmas?

This Christmas, I've got 11 family members to buy presents for.

Would I be unreasonable to buy chocolates for two family members who I don't know well? Would that be okay?

I met these family members (they're a married couple) for the first time last Christmas, and we haven't socialised since then.

Why not. Order food gifts at argos at the min with 50% off the code food50 ;)

Really difficult to say from your OP.
Am a bit confused as to how you can only meet family member once.
Generally, I don't buy for people I've only met once, and suspect most people don't.
Am trying to think of a scenario where you would want to buy for someone who you don't know / met only once and that was a year ago.

Not unreasonable at all. Although I'm not sure I would be buying any present for someone I only met a year ago.

Hellywelly10 · 19/12/2017 23:52

It's fine. They won't expect a big present.

I only met them last Christmas, and want to get them something as it's a big family Christmas where everyone will be exchanging presents, so I wanted to get them something but wasn't sure what to get.

Sounds good to me.

I bought chocolates for my brother and sister-in- law this year. They are from Fortnum & Mason which might make a difference and I'm taking them out for a meal on Saturday as well.

RestingGrinchFace · 20/12/2017 00:02

Do you want to come be a part of my family-chocolates are the best presents!

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 20/12/2017 00:31

Thanks everyone :)

I never know what to buy people in my family for Christmas or how many presents to get people, as there are quite a few of us and everyone tends to buy quite a lot.

I can't afford very much this year, as I'm job-hunting and not on a very high salary. I just get a bit stressed with trying to 'match' other people's presents in the family and with getting things that people will like and appreciate.

If they’re a chocolate lover then they’ll be happy. I don’t really eat chocolate, my family know yet I still receive chocolate gifts. But the other inhabitants of my house are happy with that Grin

The current Secret Santa thread seems to suggest 90% of mumsnetters would be fine with getting an impersonal but inoffensive thermal socks and chocolate combo.

HermionesRightHook · 20/12/2017 07:53

Yep, chocolates are a fine present - nicely laid out box, inoffensive mix of flavours. I'd go for best quality I could afford but whether that's fortnums, M&S or whatever nice ones they have on offer Asda it's a kind thought and they can always share them at work if they don't particularly like chocs.

I am truffle making tomorrow. Been studying you tube and PIntrest. They went down really well last year
