Everyone obviously thinks what they are telling you is true but sometimes their sources or opinions are not factually correct.

What is the most ridiculous or bizzare fact/opinion you have seen ?

OP posts:

There are loads of weird conception based one.

For example, the idea that bleeding is a good sign because it's probably implantation is very prevalent.

It's because people are often a bit desperate though so I do understand it.

EvilRingahBitch · 19/12/2017 16:37

I agree crunchy, everywhere else in the developed world spends more on healthcare - sometimes massively more, and any improvement to the current system has to include a much larger % of GDP being spent on health by whatever route.

But that’s a separate issue to my point which is that there is a whole range of health care systems outside the US and the UK but you wouldn’t think it to listen to UK political conversations.

"What about Robin, that's a bird and you wouldn't argue with that as a name?"

Actually, the bird is named after the person's name, not the other way round. Originally just known as the redbreast, then familarly called Robin Redbreast, which is usually shortened to Robin nowadays.

Thank* you for the opportunity Lord S* like fuck I do Wink.

JanetsPlain · 19/12/2017 16:52

Well that bold went really wrong.

ShotsFired · 19/12/2017 17:00

@KenForPM One thing I’ve noticed a lot is posters selectively misreading an OP.

Agree. I've thought this/posted similarly before. There are a lot of posters who post the response they want to give, come what may and seemingly regardless of the irrelevancy of it to the OP.

It's related to those posters who try and be deliberately thick and don't understand a simple question, because the OP has either made a basic typo, fudged a few details for anonymity or whatever. It's all just a means for them to put on their bitchy superior act.

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2017 17:06

That's a bit like the people who claim to not be able to read anything that isn't in paragraphs.

ReturnOfTheMackYesItIs · 19/12/2017 17:07

That people with borderline personality disorder were excluded from MH services till 2000 and something...not true but that poster stated it as fact on nearly all of their threads.

That you can develop PTSD from getting divorced.

That you can call the MH crisis team (who have had no previous input with you) because you forgot to pick up your prescription of anti-depressants and will run out over the weekend.

That anything less than stellar prime time 1980s family sitcom worthy parenting that results in all situations being resolved with a hair ruffle and calling the kid a ‘cheeky monkey’ is ‘abuse’..... and social services/ health visitor will want to be informed so they can swoop into action immediately

PuppyMonkey · 19/12/2017 17:11

Talking of spiders, people on here always trot out the "tip" that you can deter them by placing conkers around your house. Bollocks can you.

I have a horse chestnut tree in my back garden, I used to go round the whole house putting conkers in various places - spiders didn't give a shiny shite about the conkers. In fact I once saw a spider who'd fashioned a designer web from one conker I'd placed in the downstairs loo. Bastard spiders.

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2017 17:16

"JacquelineChan

that you must hand over your screaming newborn baby over to your husband who has been out drinking all night and strolled in drunk at 7am. then go out for some me time.
because you will totally relax knowing your child is being minded by a drunken idiot"
Excellent one! When my dc were tiny I hated leaving them with sober, competent dh. I'd have been a jittering wreck if he'd been an idiot

SlackerMum1 · 19/12/2017 17:20

Terrible understanding of research and statistics.... people backing up any ‘fact’ by posting a link to one study and acting like it’s a ‘mike drop’ moment..... no no NO....

Even large scale robust studies are rarely absolutely conclusive and can contradict each other.... because guess what, people are complicated. And mostly we’re talking about children’s health and development which is super complicated.

Or just don’t understand stats.... yes there is a small statistics significant effect for something at POPULATION level..... but NO this does not mean formula fed kids are getting cancer.... because (thankfully) your kid, regardless of how they were fed, was highly unlikely to ever get childhood cancer...

But my favourite one is people who ‘prove’ vaccines are unnecessary by posting death rate stats.... not infection rate, but death rate, utterly oblivious to the fact that OTHER THINGS CONTRIBUTE TO HOW LIKELY YOU ARE TO DIE

And breath....

The burglars shitting themselves is true!

Adrenaline loosens the bowels so the unfortunate victims of burglary often find the perpetrator had kindly left them a massive turd on floor.

CurryWorst · 19/12/2017 17:30

Er what now? Loads of people experience adrenline rushes without shitting themselves all over the place. Do firefighters shit at every fire? Armed response police?

Whitney168 · 19/12/2017 17:30

The twat who burgled us crapped in our linen basket as his 'signature', as if being a thief wasn't bad enough. Angry

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2017 17:31

YY I have not heard about the pooing burglars before. Sounds unlikely.

liz70 · 19/12/2017 17:33

I think like in Whitney's experience that it's more a case of deliberately adding insult to injury. Envy

BulletFox · 19/12/2017 17:37

Oh Whitney!

ReturnOfTheMackYesItIs · 19/12/2017 17:38

It's well known that some burglars defecate at the scene. It's included in some crime detection books.

Whitney168 · 19/12/2017 17:38

I think like in Whitney's experience that it's more a case of deliberately adding insult to injury.

Yep. Grim.

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2017 17:42

YY that is grim.

But I thought it was burglars having accidents rather than on purpose.

Whitney168 · 19/12/2017 17:43

Not in this case, unless he fell in the linen basket LOL.

ReturnOfTheMackYesItIs · 19/12/2017 17:43

Sometimes it's a fear/adrenaline response, sometimes it's an act of aggression.

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/12/2017 17:44

I don't think burglars who shit in the house they've broken into do so because they were caught short. It's a deliberate act done because they are scum bags void of morals.

I sure though that there's be some fact quoted once on MN explaining how it's not their fault. But it is really.
