To wish there was a family version of online dating

I don't mean some taboo tinder, I mean literally family-less people looking for similar. 30yr female seeking an aunt. 60yr old seeks sister relationship.

I know it seems weird but there are so many people by themselves in this world and this time of year really does highlight it you when no matter how many friends you have, they all flock home to their families.

Surely if there's ways to meet partners, sugar daddys , dog walkers online there should be a way to meet adoptive/stand in family members?
Even if you don't end up getting on that great (like a lot of families) sending an obligatory Christmas card yearly or meeting for a monthly lunch. There's so much to be said for the feeling of having that!

Surely people with whom you have a close, affectionate relationship, who aren’t relatives, are just friends? There are sites and apps for that. It’s a nice idea, don’t get me wrong! But I just think it would be too weird to specifically advertise for a nephew or whatever Grin

ScreamingValenta · 16/12/2017 12:50

It's a lovely idea! I'd advertise for a niece or nephew Xmas Smile.

rizlett · 16/12/2017 13:04

I think its a good idea Orphan - I'd be looking for a Dad. [and maybe a sister.]

Elllicam · 16/12/2017 13:08

What a lovely idea Smile I always wanted a sister.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/12/2017 13:17

I've got loads of spare nieces and nephews. How many would you like?

(Did I imagine it or was there a thread earlier in the year where someone wanted a sister and I believe found one?)

ElizaDontlittle · 16/12/2017 13:18

How would you feel about a church, OP? I feel like I get some of the parental love that I really miss by being single childless and parent less there. And I have plenty of kind if surrogate nephews and nieces!

Cornettoninja · 16/12/2017 13:36

Is it America that has a big brother/sister programme or is that just sitcom world? I always thought that was a lovely idea and would work well extended to all generations.

Bobbins43 · 16/12/2017 13:37

I'd love to have a sister :)

VioletCharlotte · 16/12/2017 13:40

I think this is a lovely idea. I'd love a sister.

Stormwhale · 16/12/2017 13:40

I would love a sister too. Or lots of brothers and sisters to do not family get togethers with.

Friends aren't the same. I want people who I don't have to worry about offending or being socially awkward with. I want people that you know will always be around, not just when you do something for them.

Stormwhale · 16/12/2017 13:43

I also feel I would be an excellent grandchild. I already have grandparents and they bring so much to my life I would love to have more. Dd is a fab great grandchild, and I think she would brighten up other elderly people's days like she does for my grandparents.

Urubu · 16/12/2017 13:52

You are onto something OP.
The kind of idea who could lead someone motivated to create a platform, market it on social media. I am sure it could work.

Prusik · 16/12/2017 14:00

An awesome idea. I'd love some cousins for my Ds

Nousernameforme · 16/12/2017 14:04

I would like some grandparents for my children only requirement would be wanting to spend to with them

MadamePince · 16/12/2017 14:10

I think it's a great idea.
So many lonely people out there.

I do have family I am close with, but DH doesn't. He;d love a sibling relationship like I have with my sister. He is NC with his sister (who is a nightmare), he misses his late parents too, he like to be able to pick up the phone and put the world to rights with them. He get ok-ish with my family, but they are not "'his"

twiney · 16/12/2017 14:34

I want a cool older brother with a motorbike
