Just picked up 6.2kg turkey, it came to £89.73 so I said got the butchers, is that £89 then? He flatly refused.
Yes yes I know you wouldn't try this in waitrose but neither would you have to pay £14.50 a kg (my husband's decision to use this butchers, not mine)

Was I being unreasonable to consider asking?

Mumof56 · 15/12/2017 17:56

Yes. It's 73p.

jelliebelly · 15/12/2017 17:57

Yes YABU

Jaxhog · 15/12/2017 17:57

Bit cheeky maybe. But if you don't ask, you don't get!

ILoveMyMonkey · 15/12/2017 17:57

You don't ask you don't get as the saying goes. Ywnbu to ask so long as you accepted his answer. Enjoy your turkey bet it'll be lovely.

Skittlesss · 15/12/2017 17:57

I would have just given him £90 and left it at that.

MissionItsPossible · 15/12/2017 17:57

Of course you were.

Rotorevolution · 15/12/2017 17:57

Er I would have given him £90! That’s much easier to round too. Yes very cheeky to ask.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 15/12/2017 17:58

Why not go the other way?
Butcher: so that's £90 then.
Niseko: err... no it isn't.

ClandestineAdulation · 15/12/2017 17:58

I think you’d be unreasonable to expect it, but not necessarily unreasonable to ask. You don’t ask, you don’t get.

Juicyfruitloop · 15/12/2017 18:00

Yanbu. The local Butcher usually rounds it off to the pound. Maybe as it was a posh butchers it was not exceptable.

Iloveanimals · 15/12/2017 18:01

Yabu

PinkHeart5914 · 15/12/2017 18:02

It’s 73p just pay the butcher without a fuss ffs. If you can afford £89 for a turkey, 73 bloody pence is hardly going to break you and I do find it embarrassing you tired this tbh

Yabu

blaaake · 15/12/2017 18:02

YWNBU to ask I suppose but I hope you didn't kick off when he said no

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 15/12/2017 18:02

How much?
Dear god. I’d want it to cook it’s self and deal with Boxing Day too for that.

I would have also handed over £90

buggerthebotox · 15/12/2017 18:03

£89 for a turkeyXmas Shock misses point

glitterbiscuits · 15/12/2017 18:04

I’m a vegetarian so clueless about the price of meat. Is this a normal cost? How many people would you feed for £90.00 ?

RavenLG · 15/12/2017 18:04

Why are you trying to basically take money from an independent butcher? You’d sharp have something to say if he kindly rounded it up for you 🙄

FlouncyDoves · 15/12/2017 18:04

Stealth boast guys

maddiemookins16mum · 15/12/2017 18:06

I'd never get a turkey that big in my oven! Are you freezing it now?

crackerjacket · 15/12/2017 18:07

YANBU.

He should have charged 80.

Where will you shop next year?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 15/12/2017 18:07

I think you were really rude and a CF. You wouldn't haggle with the richer shops so why do it with a sole trader?

YANBU - the price displayed on an item is merely an 'invitation to treat' which means you are within your rights to haggle - by the same token which allows shops to refuse a sale if an item is accidentally labelled with the wrong price.

I wouldn't have bothered for 73p - but I wouldn't have thought it odd had I been behind you in the queue.

Look after the pennies (etc.) Grin
