To ask how much of a fuss to make about this?

I’ve just checked into a hotel and got into bed to find a staple in the duvet cover. It’s right on the top seam by my arms/neck/face. I know it’s not been done deliberately but think I should draw the hotel’s attention to it. The issue (I’ve posted about it before) is I’m a people pleaser and I know I’ll end up apologising for daring to mention it and be even slightly annoyed about it.

AIBU to ask for advice on how to deal with it? And what to do without being either a pushover or a dick?

Call reception and ask if they have a staple remover?

If they say no, ask if they can advise how to remove the staple from your duvet without cutting yourself

Personally, I wouldn't bother to mention it. All they can do is apologise and, from what you say, that apology may cause you more grief than any satisfaction you may get from it.

I wouldn't do anything about it unless you need a staple remover to get rid of it, in which case I would ask at reception for one.

Back in the old days, my parents used to get all their linen laundered, it came back with a label stapled to each piece. I assume the identification, it may just be this which hasn't been removed properly. Just pick it off, should be easy enough to do, I would not be making a fuss.

I would definitely ask for a new duvet cover without a staple in it. Without hesitation.

You could ring them and say ‘there is a staple on my bed’ and then take a big gulp of water so that you can’t talk any more. See what they say.

The staple was for the laundry tag.

At least advise her to have someone come and empty the bin, or who knows what sort of carnage she may wake up to in the morning!!

The only people who would complain about this are the ones that try and get free night stays or partial refunds etc.

Oh ffs, unless it's holding the duvet cover together just hook the bloody thing out and go to sleep.

I think Singlebutmarried has it spot on, it addresses the issue, without making a complaint about it and puts the ball in their court!

If they under reaact, then make complaint!

It's so you can attach the duvet to your neck.

I'd wear a helmet and my bike leathers to bed, just in case.

Can you not just turn the duvet the other way round so the staple is at the fort of the bed where it won't bother you?

A used condom would be something to make a fuss over. A staple, not really.
