At DS's school winter fayre tomorrow. I'm 13 weeks pregnant but I can't stop thinking about that spiced warming deliciousness!

Well, it's vile!!

DailyMaileatmyshit · 13/12/2017 20:07

Go for it. It's usually low alcohol wine, orange juice and water so quite dilute.

ButterfliesAreWeird · 13/12/2017 20:08

I think you already know the answer. I'm sure they'll be warm nonalcoholic drinks there

ColonelJackONeil · 13/12/2017 20:08

I wouldn't personally. The nicest spiced non alcoholic drink I've had was a warm spiced apple and ginger, lovely. I had a bit of a cold at an outdoor event and it made me feel a lot better. So I'd mix something like that up. There's quite a few recipes online. You could take some in a thermos cup to the fayre if you want.

GinIsIn · 13/12/2017 20:08

If you want a drink, have one, but I would avoid mulled wine as there’s no way of knowing the alcohol content. You may get a watered down one, you may get one laced with loads of brandy.

I promise I'm not a big drinker at all, and haven't/won't drink during the rest of this pregnancy. I just fancy a little cup of warm spicy happiness!

I know what you mean though, I'm not a drinker but when I was pg I really missed soft cheese and pate at Xmas.

Silverthorn · 13/12/2017 20:17

It's a slippery slope OP. Nods wisely. It starts with one small glass of mulled wine at the school fayre and before you know it you will be downing bottles of absinthe in a crack den.... Wink

Silverthorn · 13/12/2017 20:18

I may have eaten medium steak and soft poached eggs when pregnant with ds2. He is an evil genius. Not like straight-laced ds1.

ethelfleda · 13/12/2017 20:19

I'm sure a small cup isn't going to hurt!

ClemHFandango · 13/12/2017 20:20

Apparently Ribena Winter Spice is very tasty abs similar to mulled wine when served hot.

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/12/2017 20:21

Do it.

Cheekyandfreaky · 13/12/2017 20:21

It’s fine, I reckon a lot of the alcohol is burnt off and 1 glass is fine imo.

PurpleDaisies · 13/12/2017 20:21

The evidence that one small alcoholic drink will cause harm to your baby just doesn’t exist.

Have a mulled wine and don’t worry,

The chance that brandy will have been added to the school's winter fayre mulled wine is absolutely minimal. I'd imagine that they will have made it as cheaply as possible so it will be more dilute than ordinary wine, even if none of the alcohol has burned off. Portions will probably be pretty small too, again because of costs but also as they won't want anyone risking being over the limit for driving. I'd have a small amount and not worry about it, however they may well have a hot apple spice version too which might also be very nice.

The Tesco one says 10% vol.
