To ask if you have a stomach overhang thing?

ILoveMillhousesDad · 12/12/2017 20:49

The lower part of my tummy has never recovered after having my daughter (almost 9 yrs ago 😒) even at my slimmest size 10, the overhang was there.

It doesn't usually bother me that much, but I have my works do on friday and have a great dress I want to wear.

You can slightly see the motherfucking, bastard twatting overhang.

Does anyone know of ANY shapewear at all that could disguise the overhang? Don't care if it's uncomfortable 😂

If you've found this page in search of shapewear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best shapewear useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

spanx are good but I can barely eat anything with them on, which in hindsight is maybe not such a bad thing.
I found doing planks everyday has helped but it still hangs over a bit

WeatherDependent · 12/12/2017 21:17

Bit late now for your 'do' but I always had a wibbly wobbly tummy, I went from a 14 pushing 16 to a very comfortable size 12 but it was still there.

I took up running (mortifying as I could feel it moving up and down as I ran) however 6 months on and it has drastically reduced. I don't run fast, more an ambling jog nor do I run far. But it's had an amazing effect on my body, my legs are much slimmer and toned and my tummy much much flatter - one of the best things I've ever done. Come better weather and I'll be back at it Wink

Autumnchill · 12/12/2017 21:17

Make sure you take your dress when you go shopping to make sure nothing is on show at the back, straps etc. Made that mistake before!

Yes I do. I tend to wear peplum dresses now as that disguises it.

Growingboys · 12/12/2017 21:32

OP I could have written your post word for word. And unlike a PP, I run a lot but it's still there. Even yoga, which has made me seriously toned, has failed to shift the 'mum apron' (gloriously awful term!).

I have Spanx but worry they might come too low down on the leg for my dress, so I might take PPs' advice and have a look at M&S tomorrow in advance of Friday.

Thank you for posting!

I dress to hide mine put if I get down to my weight goal and maintain for a few years I fancy partial tummy tuck as mine literally is a flap of skin when I'm slim. Probably overhangs knickers by a few inches.

I'm very short and had 3 Huge babies... Sad

JaneEyre70 · 12/12/2017 21:35

I find the thigh length shorts type shapewear is the best. But you may need to try and few kinds before you get ones that are comfy and do the job! I got some good ones from Debenhams a few weeks back.

grannytomine · 12/12/2017 21:36

I think some of them have elective c sections and a tummy tuck at the same time too! I had ECS with number 3, Consultant tried to persuade me to have a CS with number 4, I said I would if they would do a tummy tuck at the same time. He didn't agree so I too have a mum apron.

Mrsmadevans · 12/12/2017 21:36

Primark shapewear is excellent I lost 12 stone , long story , I have the tights and the wear your own bra with the cut away corset that does up underneath and It is fantastic to firm up the wobbly and underhang TMI methinks btw I had a cs on my dd2 and it leaves you with this hanging blob it is horrible but with 12 stone less of fat the hanging skin that is left is horrendous so the underhang bit is the least of my worries lol

FairyPenguin · 12/12/2017 21:36

I hate my tummy and I find any of the tight controlling underwear exceedingly uncomfortable. I try not wear anything clingy but means shopping is a nightmare.

Notfastjustfurious · 12/12/2017 21:38

I call this my baby pocket where I kept my lovely babies until they were unleashed on the world. Nothing much - not planks or running have shifted it. When going out I wear control tights that kind of flatten it in a bit and an empire line. I think it's staying though even if I have no intention of filling it again.

MabelFurball · 12/12/2017 21:40

I have not had babies but still have it Shock

Onionringo · 12/12/2017 21:48

I have an overhang. My stomach was flat after my first baby, who was just over 6lb. I then had twins weighing 6lb each, and it's never gone back. I doubt it will. I'm fairly slim and reasonably fit, but nothing is shifting it at the moment. I go through phases of it bothering me, and then not.

Shapewear is essential. And high waisted jeans, so that I can tuck it in nicely.

LordSugarWillSeeYouNow · 12/12/2017 21:52

I swear that a pair of knickers from Asda of all places costing £3 are miracle workers.

They are high waisted, quite pretty and nude.
They suck everything in Grin

Nofunkingworriesmate · 12/12/2017 21:58

I look 5 months pregnant and people ask me all the time if I am ( or give me seats) I use a range of slimming underwear mostly spanks and depending on the dress a full body wet suit type thing
If eating is involved and I am mostly under a table. I always arrive in the under garment for a good first impression then after everyone is merry remove under crackers and get pissed and eat and be merry

MsHarry · 12/12/2017 21:59

I don't have overhang but after 2 babies my stomach is not as flat as it was. I recently bought a shaping slip with built in bra in Debenhams. It came in cup sizes which is good and gave a great smooth line.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 12/12/2017 21:59

I suspect the only thing that would shift mine would be surgery and I doubt I can be bothered to go down that route. I also can't be bothered to see if a draconian diet would help either. Being a size 8-10 who exercises regularly makes not a jot of difference, and the smaller my waist, the more pathetically creased my crimpline abdomen looks. In the words of Newton, my large baby in his swimming pool meant that my elastic limit was exceeded.

I've got a good pair of M&S pants that keep my ribs warm. They do smooth out and firm up the most of the saggy, lumpy texture. While I'm no model, the rest of me is quite respectable, and it does peeve me that this part of my body randomly looks like it's 50 years older than the rest of me.

Ashamedandblamed · 12/12/2017 22:00

Primark do great ones.

Try there first as very Cheap

Flopjustwantscoffee · 12/12/2017 22:01

I think it's actually normal. If, for example, you look at artwork from the past (from a range of eras so with a range of different body ideals) they pretty much all show women with softer tummys than is deemed acceptable today. After having babies it's got less to do with excess fat/lack of toning and more to do with stretched skin. On the other hand I am a hypocrite and insecure, so wear shaping tights which hold everything in without being too uncomfortable

Flopjustwantscoffee · 12/12/2017 22:02

And second what ashamed says about primary tights!

MikeAlphaMikeAlpha · 12/12/2017 22:03

Loving the name mum apron! I have one and I hate it, I won't wear a bikini now because of it but an m&s body suit sorts it out! Thanks

RandomMess · 12/12/2017 22:03

The tummy flattening slips I find the best for improving outline without creating tummy pains!

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 12/12/2017 22:04

Walking has minimized mine....I had two sections and my scar was for some reason, oddly shaped almost like a "tick" which meant my overhang was uneven!

I began walking around 10 miles per day split into the school run and then a long dog walk....it's really helped.
