To ask if this is cruel

Sorry for posting here! Posted in Fishnet (who knew it existed? ) but not getting any replies and want to sort asap if I'm right in thinking this is cruel.

I've just seen these two fish in a tank which to me (complete novice to fish/pets) looks far too small and cruel.
I've had a quick Google and it seems to suggest sizes in gallons and I'm a bit clueless.
Can anyone advise as I really would like to approach owners if it is too small.

That is far too small. I know nothing about keeping fish but that is just too small.

I thought so. They are big and don't know if you can see there is some kind of stone tower also taking up space.

Yes it's a nursery. I'm going to speak with them later. God they've had these fish for years but I've never seen them as they are in a room I don't go in.

Far too small, filthy, no aeration, no filter, no gravel. Not at all appropriate. Those poor fish won't last six months in that environment.

Wow you would think they would know better the figs don't even look like they can swim in there. Just turn one way or the other. Sad

I went to a spa in Vietnam a few weeks ago and they had a fish bowl only slightly bigger than a saucer teeming with little fish. I thought it was really cruel (as is the one in your pic, imagine living your life in those confinements)

Yes! Far too small. I looked into getting some goldfish for dd a while ago and the size of tank they need is much bigger than you’d expect. Way bigger than that.

My fish tank for 2 goldfish is far too small for them, according to me and online but DP thinks it's fine and mine is easily 4 times that bowl. That is horrible. Poor fish. It's amazing how long they will live in their though if they are cleaned out regularly. But nowhere near their full life expectancy.

Looks like the smallest size of biorb, which is 15L!

There should be some aeration and filtration via the hidden tube in the middle though.

I have a 30L biorb but we wouldn't dream of keeping goldfish. Just minnows and a few shrimp.

For the love of sleep - I have never heard this rule.

It is too small yes. There seems to be a misconception that goldfish are small but that is because they can only grow as big as the tank allows. Their organs however will keep growing and that's what will kill them.
