To ask if this is cruel

Sorry for posting here! Posted in Fishnet (who knew it existed? ) but not getting any replies and want to sort asap if I'm right in thinking this is cruel.

I've just seen these two fish in a tank which to me (complete novice to fish/pets) looks far too small and cruel.
I've had a quick Google and it seems to suggest sizes in gallons and I'm a bit clueless.
Can anyone advise as I really would like to approach owners if it is too small.
Thanks

They should give them to someone with a large pond. Those tanks aren't really big enough to keep any kind of fish properly.

It's also not best to keep fish in a circular bowl as it can make the fish feel like they're being chased and can cause stress and shock to them.

It does look small but be aware the fish are magnified due to the shape of the tank. A view from the top will show the fish are a lot smaller than they appear in that pic.

Poor fish.

And yes, they probably are slightly magnified, but that tank is still crazily small Sad

That is an appallingly small tank for goldfish, or for anything really.

We previously kept goldfish in a 180 L tank with a big filter, and even then, it was difficult to keep the tank clean, and the fish ended up in a pond, where they (and their children and grandchildren) are now much happier. As pp said, healthy goldfish are very active and need lots of space to swim.

Please say something to the nursery. If they can't manage a (much) bigger tank, then the fish need to be rehomed to someone with a pond and suitable experience.

That’s awful!!! Our nursery have a fish tank, with some tiny cold water tropical fish in, and theirs is about 6 times that size!

My 30l biorb has a siamese on his own. That set up is so cruel but for some reason so many people still seem to have no clue how to care for fish and see them as disposable. Maddening.

Horrific. Google inches of fin to amount of water. That's horrendous. My similar goldfish are in a 5 foot long pond with a pump, waterfall etc for aeration. Poor fish :(

It stinks. I HATE it. How anyone can get pleasure from being in a room looking at that baffles me Confused

I am also not sure it is sending the right message to children about the way to treat animals

Well I'm not convinced if I'm honest. I went with some stuff I'd looked at online and she agreed with me that tank is too small. She has said she will be looking into size appropriate tanks. When I questioned time frames etc she couldn't really give me an answer.
I think I will go in again next week and chase up to make sure.
Just to clarify it wasn't filthy as pp had said I think it's just the colour behind the bowl.
I felt a bit fobbed off so I will definitely be chasing up again.

Good for you. Not exactly the best thing to be teaching children.
