Nature is amazing. All these wonderful plants and animals inhabiting this planet.

And all at danger because of human activity.

I wonder what the planet would be like without humans.

(Yes, I am watching Blue Planet)

I just said the same thing. So sad.

Personally, I think humans are simultaneously the best and worst species on the planet. The most productive, ingenious etc and also the most destructive.

There is an environmentalist movement which encourages people not to have children for the same reason you’ve mentioned in your op. All about how beautiful Gaia will be when humanity finally fecks off! I don’t happen to agree with them personally, but I’m just pointing you towards people who might share your view.

bluejelly · 10/12/2017 20:44

Agree with everything said above. We are failing the planet hugely at the mo

sagamartha · 10/12/2017 20:47

When the human race eventually dies out, Gaia will live on.

The planet will survive. Nature will find a way.

Yes, that’s exactly the kind of rhetoric I mean. I’ll try and find the group for you.

I think they’re called the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement op.

I read the Gaia hypothesis when young. It really influenced me.

Totally agree.

OhHolyJesus · 10/12/2017 20:52

I can't watch it's so depressing. As a species we will probably cause our own extinction and other life on this planet will adjust and evolve hopefully - I agree if it wasn't for humans it would be entirely different and peaceful.

I got half way through a Plastic Ocean on Netflix - that and Chasing Coral are good documentaries to watch if you're interested but have tissues nearby!

Percy just lost his favourite clam. Coral bleaching, acidity, plastic...
It's so depressing.
