Who's got snow today?

And if so,how much? I admit I'm like a big kid with regards to snow, despite being 54 years old and having a disability which limits my mobility. I had no idea snow was expected in the west London area today,so had a big surprise when I wandered into the kitchen at 8am this morning to feed the cat and saw snow on the roofs of the houses opposite. It's not a massive amount admittedly, only an inch or so. On the weather forecast late last night,it said snow was expected in northern parts of England and the south west,no mention of the south east. So I was mightily surprised. I just love the way a layer of snow transforms the usual dull landscape around where I live.

Lots. All day Friday and all day today. About 20cm total. We're in the West Midlands.

The80sweregreat · 10/12/2017 17:17

Essex. Couple of inches.

ConcreteUnderpants · 10/12/2017 17:18

About 7 inches here in Birmingham.
Looking to freeze overnight.

JaneEyre70 · 10/12/2017 17:19

Loads here in North Gloucestershire. Woke up to a good layer and it's still snowing now. I'd say we've had a good 8 cms over the course of the day. Our road up to the house is inaccessible and several cars have been abandoned on the road through the village - think we will be even more stuck in tomorrow when it all freezes. It's been lovely today, with the grandchildren. And the dog!! He loved it. Only downer was DD2 getting stuck at her bf's who is even more snowbound than us and they've got no electricity either. She's got a cold and just wants to come home!!

Breezy1985 · 10/12/2017 17:20

Lincs had about an inch this morning but it's all disappeared, they even cancelled Lincoln Christmas market, they might as well kept it open.

CarpeVitam · 10/12/2017 17:21

West Yorkshire here. NONE!! 😡. I'm ridiculously jealous of those who do!

bertsdinner · 10/12/2017 17:23

West York's, snowed for about 3 hours today, not really settled but left about 2 cm of fine icy stuff. I think it will freeze overnight and I live on a hill, so getting off my street tomorrow could be interesting.

We do have quite a lot here in Essex.
But I'm going against the trend here: I HATE snow.
I'm afraid to go out on foot in case I slip & fall (back problems).
I'm afraid to go out in the car in case the bad conditions make me slither about and hit something or someone bumps into me.
So it always makes me feel a bit trapped.
And it isn't even pretty after the first half day when it all turns into a muddy slushy mess.
I just don't see the attraction.
But at least it never lasts very long.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/12/2017 17:29

North Essex. About an inch or 2. We havent had proper snow in a few years. Me and DD had a snowball fight.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/12/2017 17:31

MonumentalAlabaster. I'm with you, really. I hate driving in it. Nearly had an accident when pregnant with DD. Scares me.

Ellybellyboo · 10/12/2017 17:32

None here on the south coast

Passing rain and horrendous wind all day. Bloody freezing but no snow

Lloyd45 · 10/12/2017 17:32

My view from my bedroom window

Who's got snow today?
Jojobythesea · 10/12/2017 17:35

None Sad Not even a flake. For the last .... six years maybe. I love South Devon but with regards to snow it's the pits.

Neverender · 10/12/2017 17:36

Bloody loads of the stuff - maybe 10 inches. Hate it!

doyawannabuildasnowmaaaaaan · 10/12/2017 17:36

We're in Bedfordshire and had quite a lot, more than I expected. This is the first real snow that my youngest dd has seen. She was so excited

Drove home to West Midlands/Staffs first thing this morning from Lincs. Fine until Derby and from then on the A38/A5/A449 were awful. People seemed to be heeding the 'keep off the roads' warning though - unlike me who was visiting MIL. Seemed like none of the roads had been treated at all.

We seem to have around 25 cms in our garden and was still snowing when I could see outside.

Think it will be a snow day tomorrow.

TheSnowFairy · 10/12/2017 17:49

Plenty here in Berkshire. Lloyd, your view is lovely ⛄

Smoothyloopy · 10/12/2017 17:50

West Cornwall, none Sad

goodbyeeee · 10/12/2017 17:53

Loads on the Herts/Bucks border. Pain in the arse as REALLY need to go to work tomorrow but trains highly likely to be broken...

Alicecooperslovechild · 10/12/2017 18:04

Oxfordshire- 4 to 5 inches. All buses cancelled, Tourist attractions closed, Santa run cancelled. Many major toads (M40, A34) seem to have had problems too.

listsandbudgets · 10/12/2017 18:16

Plenty here.

Lloyd That looks beautiful.
I can't believe the number of MNers saying they are in Yorkshire but there's no snow! I thought Yorkshire county was snow central.

Re.the PP who mentioned that road gritting didn't appear to have been done, the thing that annoys me about where I live is that they grit the pavement right next to the bus stops, but not the pavement leading to the bus stops. So it is often treacherously slippery on the 5 minute walk to the stop. How do they think we get to the bus stops? By car? Confused Or maybe we hover a few feet above the ground until landing safely on the gritted pavement?!

I spoke to DM earlier - she was driving home from the Midlands to Buckinghamshire, saying breezily it was a bit slow, but the snow wasn't really a problem at all.

A hour later she phoned back - they actually got the car stuck about 200 metres from the house, in the middle of the road, and had to get the neighbours out to push them into the drive. A case of speaking too soon! Lots of snow in the Chilterns, then.

MsHarry · 10/12/2017 20:47

Snow day tomorrow! Whoop!
