WIBU to get a small Christmas present for the sales assistants at my local shop?

It's a small independent perfume and makeup shop. I'm friendly with the two ladies who work there: we're on first name terms and we'll usually have a bit of a chat if it's not busy. They're always really lovely with me: have helped me source some stuff that was sold out and they're invariably very generous with samples and free gifts.

I thought it might be nice to say thank you with a box of posh chocolates at Christmas, but when I mentioned it to my mum she said it wasn't sure it'd be a good idea and it might come across the wrong way. So, those of you working in retail, would you appreciate it if a customer brought you a small Christmas token, or would you find it patronising?

I'd find it lovely. Pretty much everyone ignores retail workers and forgets they even exist, so yes, it would be a lovely thing for you to do Smile

It would make my day to be quite honest.

I think that’s a lovely thing to do. I can’t see how it could possibly be seen as anything other than a thoughtful gesture.

I’m doing the same with our local butchers who are absolutely great.

I worked in retail for a long time, and we did occasionally have regular customers that gave us biscuits or chocolate at Xmas - we loved it & never thought it was odd, just lovely

I think it's a nice thing to do. In 25 years in retail, no one has ever done that for me with an actual gift. A few people have for my staff mainly men who fancied them.
Just say you appreciate all their help particularly when you have found out of stock items for you.

Retail worker here who has regular customers that I'm friendly with. This would make my day that they'd thought of me.

I've worked in retail and used to get bottles of wine, it was lovely

As ex retail I think that would be lovely! Not odd at all

I have a card and tin of chocolates for our Costa girls and guy as they always come over to say hello to DS and often give him a flake.
