To think this text from neighbour was weird?

We were sorting out an arrangement for something to be dropped off at my home and she finished the text with "Ok, thanks. Bye." Found it a bit odd is all.

I'd find the use of the word "bye" odd too. I've never seen a text signing off with "bye"!

pictish · 09/12/2017 10:47

"Maybe the neighbour has done an Ayra Stark on her and baked her in a pie."

That has really made me laugh. Eee! Grin

Lovemusic33 · 09/12/2017 10:54

My mum writes a text like she’s writing a letter, she rarely texts but when she does she always ends it with ‘from mum’, I don’t think she realises that my phone tells me who it’s from.

StaplesCorner · 09/12/2017 10:54

Makes you realise how close Trump can get to taking us all into WW3 with his confused tweets, if someone genuinely cannot cope with a text that says "ok thanks bye".

beargryllshasabigrope · 09/12/2017 10:55

I’ve read the word ‘Bye’ too many times and now it doesn’t make sense any more.

PanPanPanPing · 09/12/2017 11:00

Lovemusic, the other day I had to sign off a text saying "from Pan". It was a group text to about 10 people, 2 of whom I suspect don't have my mobile number (I've obviously been given their numbers in the past, but I don't think I've ever had to text/phone them). I'm quite sure some of the other 8 recipients thought it rather odd that I'd signed off with my name Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/12/2017 11:02

Just the fact that she text "thanks" instead of "thx" is creepy enough.
Watch your back op.

Chewbecca · 09/12/2017 11:13

'Bye' is mildly unusual for a text but not so odd that it warrants a moment's thought.

How do you sign off texts OP?

MissionItsPossible · 09/12/2017 11:18

Re: 'Spiffing' and 'perchance' are old fashioned words making a comeback? Yesterday my 18 year old step sister said "I can't deal with all of this tomfoolery" Confused

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 09/12/2017 11:20

ok yes that arrangement is ok/suitable/great
thanks thank you for making that arrangement.
bye goodbye end of conversation putting phone down now

What's odd about that

BulletFox · 09/12/2017 11:21

Ilostit do not make me splutter with laughter in the middle of moving, madam.

Anniegetyourgun · 09/12/2017 11:33

I text rarely, so when I do it comes out almost exactly as I would normally write, or for that matter speak. I would be very likely to end a text with "OK, thanks, bye". It would take longer to remember that "ok thx bb" might save a fraction of a penny off the transmission cost than it would to type out the fuller version.

Anniegetyourgun · 09/12/2017 11:35

Sorry, "k thx bb". See how bad I am at this?

I'm really trying to lull the tinfoil hatters into a false sense of security. We know where you live... now.

MiddleClassProblem · 09/12/2017 11:44

MIL is one who puts “from MIL”. But at least I can read her texts. My dad’s ones are often sentences with a few words missing or with typos so it takes a few minutes to decipher. I do like a good puzzle though.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/12/2017 11:49

My mum's texts are like that Middleclass. Her eyesight is bad and she often signs off with "zzz" instead of kisses, like I'm boring her or something. Grin

DottyS · 09/12/2017 11:50

Is this real or a wind up (if so not at all funny)

MiddleClassProblem · 09/12/2017 11:50

😂

I’m awful with my accidental “c”

ptumbi · 09/12/2017 11:54

My german friend will start a text with
Dear Ptumbi (in German)

Best Wishes(in German)
Friend XX

All very formal
Grin

dentalplanlisaneedsbraces · 09/12/2017 12:00

My mum was the queen of proper English and spelling. But for some reason in texts she doesn't use full stops or commas. It's just one big run on sentence. Drives me mad.

DottyS · 09/12/2017 12:00

I have posted on your other thread and I am glad that you are obviously feeling so much better = which is good.

AuntLydia · 09/12/2017 12:01

According to my 18 year old niece it's the height of rudeness to end a text with a full stop. This is a known thing amongst the young folk apparently. I was completely baffled. An x or an exclamation mark Is acceptable apparently

MiddleClassProblem · 09/12/2017 12:02

ptumbi do they put their name or just The actual word “friend”?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/12/2017 12:06

LostItInTheEarlyNineties

(Just the fact that she text "thanks" instead of "thx" is creepy enough*

I would never contract "thanks" to "thx". If you use android swipe text input there is no time saved using contractions

ptumbi · 09/12/2017 12:35

MiddleClassProblem - she will sign off with her name. As if I didn't know who it as texting me, from her number! Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 09/12/2017 12:49

At least that’s better than saying “Friend x” like she’s stating your relationship to Mother Earth and all those who shall sense it.
