Basically i am going to be homeless early in 2018.

It is my own fault by the way. However i saw from the other thread there were places to sleep at night. Are shelter the best people to contatct?

Sadly around me (midlands) a lot of the charities are rammed; so it can depend why you'll be homeless as to where to go for help.

Have you been managing to pay your rent on time? Will you get a reference from your current landlord? Those will both help.

Shelter will be able to signpost some services. Is there a Salvation Army near you? They will give you a bed in one of their hostels; if they've got one available, although there are often rules regarding guests, alcohol, drugs etc.

hereineedalittlehelp · 07/12/2017 12:34

Salvation army would be good. Maybe ywca?

Start looking for a room in a house on Gumtree or the like. Lots of those don't need a deposit. A sublet might be had on there.

IceFall · 07/12/2017 12:41

Where the MN admin warming "don't send money to strangers off the Internet" - it needs to be on this thread.

Of the off chance you are genuine OP - please answer why and how you are being made homeless?

You need much less cash than you are claiming. Even in London you can rent a shared room (as in you actually share the bedroom) for £60/week and you don't need to pay much of a deposit and agency fees etc, certainly no credit check.

That would do you for a few weeks until you save enough to get a proper room in a shared house. Since you claim that all you want is to not be on the streets, a shared room is a hell of a lot better than the streets.

Look for a lodging arrangement - cheaper.

Also, you work 'full time' and are fit and healthy with no children? Then you probably need to work more than full time. Pick up extra shifts, find other casual work - it's a good time of year to pick up extra work.

hereineedalittlehelp · 07/12/2017 12:43

They all cost in the region of six hundred pounds, i just dont have that sort of money as even one that just costs 400 plus deposit of 200 is the very cheapest. Ill ring salvation army.

hereineedalittlehelp · 07/12/2017 12:45

I am not here for money.

No one has offered

If they do i will ignore it.

I work plenty. I have made some really bad choices though and i am trying to sprt it.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 07/12/2017 12:46

Where are you? They all do? I've seen some pretty dodgy sublets out there on Gumtree that are nowhere near 600, much less require a deposit. Ask at work or on your FB for a cheap room.

hereineedalittlehelp · 07/12/2017 12:48

Ive looked expat and i cant see any just ones asking for a deposit and like i say looking at 400 minimum most closer to 450. Anyway rhe thing is i saw on the other thread that hostels have to give you a place if the alternative is the street.

'Anyway rhe thing is i saw on the other thread that hostels have to give you a place if the alternative is the street.'

Not if they are full.

Havingahorridtime · 07/12/2017 12:51

£400+ £200 deposit is doable on 3 weeks full time wages.
Why can't you just save every penny you earn except the bare minimum that you need for food?
3 weeks full time at minimum wage = £750 at least. If you take out £25 per week for food you will have the £600 you need to get somewhere to live. And the 5th january is actually 4 weeks so you have some flexibility in there for essential things like travel to Work costs and you should still be able to get enough together in time.
Any reason you can't do this?
I really don't understand why this isn't feasible as if I was abou to be homeless I would think fuck everything except feeding myself and saving every penny I earn to get somewhere to live.

expatinscotland · 07/12/2017 12:51

You still have time to find a room. I'd ask on FB selling sites, at work, on Gumtree or local listings. I've had to find a few quick sublets myself, they can be had.

Havingahorridtime · 07/12/2017 12:53

Hostels have no obligation to give you somewhere to live. You will not be a priority case so your best option is saving every penny and getting somewhere yourself.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/12/2017 12:54

Spare room.com has loads in London for under a £100 a week with no deposit

LouMumsnet · 07/12/2017 12:56

Thanks for the reports about this thread.

OP, we're sorry to hear that you are in such a difficult position. Hopefully you'll get some good advice here.

We're awed daily by the help and support MNers offer each other.

However, it seems a good moment to remind you all that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are - and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially or emotionally than they can spare.

We hope that makes sense.

hereineedalittlehelp · 07/12/2017 12:56

Thats still 400 a month and i dont have it. Thanks for your replies.

BabyOrSanta · 07/12/2017 13:03

I suppose it depends when you get paid as well, especially being Xmas

Havingahorridtime · 07/12/2017 13:05

So based on your most recent post, is it he monthly rent that you can't afford?
If you are working full time and. Ant afford £400 per month rent then unfortunately you will likely be homeless.
If debt is the problem then baneuitvu might be your best option so you can get back into an even keel. Unfortunately bankruptcy requires an upfront payment too which you don't have. The only other option is to get help with your debt and get the creditors to accept a nominal monthly payment of £1 each every month. You can't give them what you don't have.

DailyMaileatmyshit · 07/12/2017 13:07

Where are you living now?

Why/ how are you being made homeless (don't need to know details re finances or anything just the legalities - section 21? living with family, lodger etc).

RunningOutOfCharge · 07/12/2017 13:08

Op

You seem to be clinging to the hope you will be safe and off the streets in a hostel. They are usually full at this time of year!

Try and help yourself before you become homeless

Where are you now? Sell your furniture!

RunningOutOfCharge · 07/12/2017 13:09

How can you be working full time and not have £400 a month?

NerrSnerr · 07/12/2017 13:13

How can you be working full time and not have £400 a month?

Im assuming because the OP has payday loans at something like 8000% apr (or whatever it is) to pay back. Possibly also other loans, cc, overdraft fees etc. It could easily add up to more than a monthly rent.

Bumbumtaloo · 07/12/2017 13:18

OP as far as I’m aware the council won’t have a duty to house you - single person, no children and no disabilities you but they may still be able to help. They should have a list of private landlords and might be able to help with the initial deposit, under the deposit scheme but that varies from council to council. Are you eligible for any housing benefit? Definitely try and speak with different agencies, Shelter are very good.
