I think I have owned "having a child with food allergies" and "breastfeeding for a long time" (the latter is related to the allergies btw). Someone started going on about how amazingly long they had breastfed their child (to over a year) and how people had complained etc etc but nothing was going to stop them. I mentioned that I had bf my 3 DC for more than 7 years between them. She gave me a Look and carried on going on about how long she had done it for. I started this thread thinking she was being a Janet but now I think perhaps The Janet Is Me.

In my defence a friend started going to a sewing class. She showed me what she has been making. I'd love to go as well. But I don't want to tread on her toes - it's her thing.

No, don't worry Balloon - if you didn't go on and on and ON about how long you BF your 3 DC and how 1 year is piffle, then you're not the Janet, she is.
And ask your friend if she'd mind if you went along too - she might be happy to have you there!

@ihatetosay the 'original' Janet is OPs colleague, it's quite obvious if you just read the first couple of pages of the thread that she talks about her colleague Janet and then others say they have known 'Janets' in their lives too. So the word is now being used to describe someone who regardless of level of knowledge believes they are the best at/ most knowledgable/ first pioneer to discover/ earliest adopter or some activity/interest/or subject. And thrusts this 'ownership' of said thing in everyone's faces should they ever have the audacity to try to participate/visit/learn the activity/Place/subject.
