It’s not “your” hobby.

Nobody is stealing your thunder by taking up running.

If you faux roll your eyes and mention it again I’m going to throw a fucking stapler at your head

My dh manets the "I've got worse than you" of any illness I have.
Yes he has the same cough/ cold/ virus but his case is far more severe and pain much greater. Hmm

badabing36 · 08/12/2017 20:49

HidingBehindTheWallpaper it was Farrah, that was the first thing I thought of when reading this thread too the op who janeted Farrah Grin

lborgia · 08/12/2017 20:56

I agree derxa, Lady Bracknell must’ve been.

That Vimeo is fabulous! I must store it for future low moments..

MoreCheerfulMonica · 08/12/2017 22:19

The Janet of baby names must be quite young, because we Janets of 70s TV could have told her about Farrah Fawcett Major.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 08/12/2017 22:27

That was it.
She was mighty pissed off when we all told her that Farrah was very much a name.

DH has a friend who is a house guest of ours way too often and he is a Son Of Janet.

Once I was cooking bolognese and he was watching over my shoulder. Finally he breathed in significantly, then commented;

'Mummy doesn't do it like that'.

Reader.... he was 54 at the time.

(Actually, he's an Ex-friend of DH's.I brained him with my Le Creuset).

MoreCheerfulMonica · 09/12/2017 08:44

Clearly, Mummy is the Janet of cooking, and so nobody can match or even aspire to her culinary skills, whilst you Janet the invention of new uses for le Creuset.

(and I am the Janet of name-dropping prestigious kitchen equipment). Grin

frieda909 · 09/12/2017 12:43

HidingBehindTheWallpaper I already mentioned that thread ages ago. Gosh, I can’t have anything to myself can I?

RosaDeZoett you can't own Canada! My SIL and her EXDH own Canada! All of my relatives who have lived there since the sixties must move back to Europe as it is very, very rude of me to have relatives living in Canada.

Also had a coworker who tried to Janet the "Lord of the Rings" books after the first movie came out. Told me over lunch (in a very patronizing voice) that I really ought to read the books. She only said that to me even though we were several people eating together as if I was the one who really needed to read more. She did not know me very well! When I told her I had read them, she didn't believe me, so I had to inform her I had read the series 5 times in Danish, 3 times in English and that I own a special edition hard back series with a prolog telling how Tolkien wrote the books and a CD where he reads exerpts of the books. Then she stopped trying to Janet "Lord of the Rings".

I have now lost count of how many times I have read the series and I don't want to Janet it because it is nice to know I am not alone in being a nerd.

LeakyLittleBoat · 09/12/2017 14:06

Buddha Mummy might be my friend 'Betty' (NC to protect the guilty) who really is the Janet of cooking. She not only breathes down my neck in her kitchen if I offer a hand prepping, she does it in mine. Well, she used to but then I got smart and now have everything prepped before she gets here - there's only so much criticism I can take about my unevenly diced onions before I get stabby and with all those knives about....
She now makes certain dishes, eg mashed potatoes, exactly like mine (after her DH was rash enough to comment favourably one time) but of course she invented them: "Do you like the mash? One of my little experiments, you should try doing it this way." Aaaaargh!!

LeakyLittleBoat · 09/12/2017 14:16

BTW I'm Janet of the state of California, I emigrated here 10 years ago, I own it. All those threads about "what to do on a visit to San Francisco/Yosemite/LA" need to stop. Those other posters having vacationed here and claiming to know don't know at all. Only I do. Just pm me for your itinerary if you want the real CA insider stuff.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 09/12/2017 14:23

I did think it had been mentioned, frieda909

CanuckBC · 09/12/2017 21:29

I actually own Canada... I was born here and live here so I should own it😁 Love this threadXmas Grin

FV45 · 10/12/2017 08:59

I am running a 10 mile race today.
If I win a prize can I officially own running?

JaimesGoldenHand · 10/12/2017 10:30

Can we have local ownership, like a series of franchises or leases? I feel as though I am the local owner of Iceland in my office, but I am prepared to accept that in other places of work, someone else may own it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/12/2017 13:32

I'm sorry Canuck, but actually knowing something about something, automatically disqualifies you as a Janet of it.

Sorry.

Is there anything you have had passing contact with but don't know anything about other than it exists? Could you be the Janet of par example * ballooning?

*I am the Janet of the French Language (La Langue Francais) even though I only know six short phrases and misuse/ mispronounce/ misapply them whenever I speak.

Despite this I am the Janet of French, and no-one knows the language and its subtle nuances (les nuances subtle) better than I do. Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/12/2017 13:38

FV45 - you can own running without ever entering a race if you have even thought about being adept - if, say, you have read a book about it.

TheDonald · 10/12/2017 13:40

Jaimes that's alright in theory but then what happens if two Janet of the same thing meet?

This is how wars start!

AliceWhatsth3Matter · 10/12/2017 13:43

Read a book about running Schadenfraude? Surely it is enough to have picked one up in a book shop and briefly browsed it?

Farthingwood143657 · 10/12/2017 13:54

Well my Janet owned
...black scarves
....blue jeans
...boots with laces
And anything that was currently in season at any given time!!

I think she secretly declares fashion should be named Janet, and Janet only.

....I mean black scarves....come the fuck on janet!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/12/2017 16:15

Ah Canada - does anyone remember that beautiful thread from a poster who was considering moving to Canada, and Janetted an actual Canadian about how Canadian immigration worked? I remember the Canadian poster (SGM) posting I AM CANADIAN in response to the Janet suggesting she knew very little about Canada... a beautiful moment indeed! Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/12/2017 16:38

Actually Alice - I think that if you have even walked pas a bookshelf on which such a book might once have been, it may be enough.

yumyumpoppycat · 10/12/2017 16:58

pmsl at son of a janet!

Butteredparsn1ps · 10/12/2017 17:48

My late DF manetted B roads.

Especially if someone had traveled via the wrong route
