To ask if you put coats on to get from your house to your car?

We have to drive to school and are usually parked within 100 yards of our house. Obviously the DC can't wear coats in car seats so we just walk quickly to/back from the car and leave coats in it. Our NDN and her son always put theirs on and as we all currently have colds, it's left me wondering whether I'm doing the wrong thing.

I don’t bother with coats going between the house and the car. It’s an additional faff I can do without.

Wearing or not wearing a coat won’t stop you getting a cold, btw.

well yes, or you have to carry the coat. take the coat with you in case the car breaks down or something

I do at this time of year because it is cold outside, and cold in the car until it heats up. Why wouldn't you?

My children's school coats are so thin that they just wear them in the car, so yes we do. If they were huge puffy things (and smaller children) then of course I'd make them take them off.

No I never bother with a coat my dh does then has to stop the car to take it off, on the drive usually. We load the back seat with his coat hats, scarfs and same for dc. They then get unloaded when we get home I think he likes taking them out for a drive.

Our school car park is full of kids getting out of the cars - shock horror - with their coats on.

Do you people really live in an alternate universe where people and their kids take their coats off to get in the car, then put them on again when they get out?

They take coats to school Donkey.

Lonicera- because it takes three times as long to get coats on than it does to get to/from the car. It seems silly standing putting them on at the car when we could've been inside by the time they're on.

Not unless it’s really bucketing down with rain (and even then I have to go out and grab coats from the car for the dc to wear)

I can’t be doing with the on/off faff of it all, especially in the Mir ifs when time is tight, and coats generally stay in the car. Mind you, our walk is more like 10 yards - I do get dc to put on coats for longer walks, eg at school pick up (but have more time then)

Are you those people who send their children to school without coats? Tjis is why I have 5 or 6 old coats in my class room...

I wonder this too but I just carry his coat to the car strap him in and then get a blanket to put over his while I'm driving and the car heats up.

We do because it's piss cold where we live.

I say we, I mean me because Dh doesn't because he's a lady fucker.

Is this about not wearing coats in car seats?
do you all have to have blankets?
you walk to the car in your coat, you take off your coat and cover yourself with a blanket. ?

Mumsy - my youngest is still in a five point harness, so no, he doesn’t wear a coat in the car as his straps wouldn’t be tight enough to be safe.

It isn’t recommended that people wear bulky coats with seatbelts either, for the same reason - it stops the seatbelt doing an adequate job in the event of a crash.

We wear our coats to the car and keep them on in the car if it’s cold - surely on a very chilly morning inside the car is still freezing? I usually have hat, gloves, scarf and coat on until at least halfway to school, then I might take my hat off!
If it’s milder then yes, coats stay in the car boot.

It warms up fine in the car even on the five minutes to the first school drop off.

I'm amazed people still put their kids (especially the ones in harness seats) in coats in the car.

Do you go out and warm up the car beforehand? I'd put fleeces on them for an extra layer of warmth then they can put out their coats on for school.

Being cold can't give you a cold but being cold a lot can lower your immune system.
