I disagree with the Newsweek assessment, that somehow women will rise up & punish the Republican party. I wish, but don't see it.

BUT, I heard some astute comments on CNN. Basically, the Senate has promised to implement loads of related ethics measures & conduct hearings into the allegations against Moore. That's assuming the Senate doesn't vote en masse to refuse him entry to the Senate. The publicity about these things will drag the GOP back and forth thru the mud. "Moore winning is NOT a win for the Republican Party," said the commentator, drily.

1. Horrifying news. Election protection advocate John Brakey won an important order earlier today 2 compel Alabama's SOS John Merrill 2 preserve the voting machine ballot images, which can detect & thus hacking. Merrill just got the order overruled by the AL Supreme Court.

1. It really does make one wonder what Merrill wants to hide. Saving the images takes no work. No extra money. By destroying the images, Merrill may have destroyed the only means to know if the election results are hacked.

1. As discussed in my earlier Threads, Alabama law allows an automatic recount only if the parties are within .5% of each other, and the recount is by MACHINE, not by HAND.

1. By contrast, citizens cld have obtained the digital images w/ a public records request 2 conduct a citizen recount if the outcome appeared suspect. Now that will be impossible bc Alabama's partisan GOP SOS will allow the images to be destroyed.

1. If Doug Jones loses, he could still try to get a court to order a hand recount of the paper ballots themselves. But as we saw in 2016, it is difficult to get such relief w/o proof of fraud, which is typically impossible to have without hand counting the paper ballots.

1. And it is likewise difficult e to get a court to order a forensic audit of the voting machines bc vendors claim their code is proprietary. If nothing else, we can use this disheartening experience to educate the electorate about the perils of continuing to use voting machines.
