I think the non-answers, amnesia, and evasions are themselves telling and will be carefully scrutinised by Mueller and his folks.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 07/12/2017 08:08

Yes I’m sure it must all help and that is comforting but it still makes a mockery of the committees. Recall (unlike sessions) that our dear Beauregard insisted he couldn’t answer questions because his conversations with the president were privileged - he claimed executive privilege I think. And despite it being complete nonsense, nothing was done about it then or subsequently.

lionheart · 07/12/2017 08:19

Yes, it is frustrating and also shows what 'bi-partisan' means in this context (as was the case the the Yates, Clapper, Comey hearings).

Trump has the best words

Lweji · 07/12/2017 08:41

It's #dentureDonald bringing peace to the Middle East.

"This guy is crazy let's working out among ourselves"

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 07/12/2017 09:58

Argh it won't let me view it here lweji but if he's making the point that Trump's managed to unite Saudi and Iran against him, it's a very valid one! Grin

But I'm not sure how much they care since they think they will have their 8 years come what may.

Several advisers tell WaPo that Trump did not seem to have a full understanding of the Jerusalem decision and instead appeared to be focused on “seeming pro-Israel,” in the words of one, and “making a deal,” in the words of another.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/12/2017 12:57

Yes Pain. The Mail (I know!) sums it up thus
Mr Trump’s move seems driven not by diplomatic calculations, but by a campaign promise and his current low ratings.
In 2016, he appealed to Christian evangelicals and ardently pro-Israel American Jews by vowing to move the embassy. His pledge was extremely popular with these voters, including casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who donated $25 million to the Trump cause. Mr Adelson expressed anger when Mr Trump signed the waiver in June to keep the embassy in Tel Aviv. Advisers said this week Mr Trump was making good on his promise.

Amidst all the global chaos, he’s just tweeted some words recommending a new book about Andrew Jackson that he’s seen reviewed on Fox and Friends.

Is he just trolling us all now? Is this whole presidency just a massive joke?

AcrossthePond55 · 07/12/2017 13:57

I wish it was a joke Gin!

Honestly, after yesterday's speech and his slurring and speech pattern he almost sounded as if he was on some sort of drug. Made me wonder if 'they' (whoever 'they' are) are drugging him as a form of mind control to achieve 'their' agenda (oooh, a conspiracy theory!!!). Nah, he's just a malignant narcissist.

His speech pattern reminded me of a crooked televangelist during an appeal for funds. There's sort of a whiny, pathetic, fakey sincere 'believe me, I need the money to do GOOD not for a private jet' tone of voice that they use to entice people to give. Does anyone else recognize what I'm talking about?

On other fronts......attorney/client privilege? Hahahahaha! If that flies Scrotus and his gang will be traveling with a permanent attorney attached to their heels so they can claim privilege 100% of the time.

I think little Donnie Jr forgot what he was supposed to plead.....the 5th Amendment. God knows his answer to just about any question would have led to self-incrimination.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 07/12/2017 15:48

Speaking of partisanship, there’s another inquiry going on today. Any guesses as to what it might be about? It’s something that hasn’t has much coverage and definitely isn’t politically motivated

Key takeaways so far:

  • wray’s not defending the fbi despite being given lots of opportunities to
  • "Chris Wray has impressive hair" is the new "Jim Comey is gigantically tall."

OMG Across yes, you've summed it up for me. Yesterday when I was watching his life Jerusalem announcement - aside from what he was actually saying - looking at how he was saying it, his voice, his sniffs, his grimaces, your comment encapsulates it!

This is good to read...

Ah Obama- I yearn for better times when there was a steady hand on the tiller Sad

When all this is over (although realistically the repercussions are going to be felt across the world for years, decades, ever after Trump is gone), I look very much forward to reading the book Obama is writing/will write, about the rise and fall of the Trump presidency.
There are going to be dozens of books, but Obama is uniquely placed, as a former (and highly literate) president to offer a lot of insights - I’d love to be a fly on the wall of the Obama house!

Hearing from people-including privately from a medical professional-that Trump may be having one or more small strokes.

I have no idea whatsoever if there is any substance to this story.

The only ting I'd say is - his speech was the worst I'd ever heard yesterday when he talked about Jerusalem. He couldn't seem to form the words properly

ABC News live

Al Franken is announcing his resignation from the Senate.

badbadhusky · 07/12/2017 17:05

I haven’t paid as much attention to Franken as I should. What’s his major failing? Pussy grabbing? Child abuse? Hands in the till?

badbadhusky · 07/12/2017 17:07

As an aside, I reckon Trump could be persuaded to leave office on medical grounds - there’s loss of face than if he’s ignominiously shoved or indicted. It might sooth his base too.

badbadhusky · 07/12/2017 17:08

Soothe. Hmm

MedicinalGin · 07/12/2017 17:13

I heard it was his loose dentures but haven’t seen the footage. Tbf those ridiculously fake white teeth do look capable of winding themselves up and having a life of their own!

Fekko · 07/12/2017 17:24

Stroke? As much as I don't wish the man ill, I certainly wish he'd go away.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 07/12/2017 17:32

The whole root and branch needs dealing with though - if not, the only difference is that the next person (pence, probably) will be sneakier and less obviously Disney villain and will still do all these horrifying policy changes but even more effectively.
