Do I hate it or is it the unfortunate effect of every junior school choir in the county murdering it at this time of year?

AND ALL THE ANGELS.....

It's difficult to sing well, I think. Jumps all over the shop. In fact, I don't really like it.

TovaGoldCoin · 04/12/2017 21:34

I can belt it out. It's a bit high for me, and my 4 year olds have started to copy my awful 'reaching' for.. Bells of... Heaven... Bit Blush

choirconflicted · 04/12/2017 21:35

Seems to be sung in an American accent as well.

I used to love playing that at school for the children to sing. :)

Very tricky to sing properly.

choirconflicted · 04/12/2017 21:39

The words are very pretty, I think they redeem it.

Hiphopopotamus · 04/12/2017 21:40

Written by an English songwriter - no need for any American accent

choirconflicted · 04/12/2017 21:42

I didn't know that!

Is that the one that goes ‘earthlings sleeping, sleeping calm and still’
?

I can never get over the word earthling.

RobotGoat · 04/12/2017 21:45

I love it! But then, I have memories of a lovely version by a professional choir; never heard it sung by school children. Maybe that would colour my perspective Grin

picklemepopcorn · 04/12/2017 21:47

Sentimentali, Earth lay sleeping! The earthlings were partying wildly with the shepherds, if I remember correctly.

AmysTiara · 04/12/2017 21:48

It was my favourite song to sing when i was in primary school.

I still like it.

choirconflicted · 04/12/2017 21:50

Earthlings 😂😂😂

A new take on the traditional!

OP posts:
Sentimentallentil · 04/12/2017 21:51

Ahhhhhhh ‘earth lay sleeping’

Yes that makes much more sense.

(Continues to sing earthling)

Talith · 04/12/2017 21:52

When I was growing up dahn saaff it was 'King of All the Weld'.

GrandDesespoir · 04/12/2017 21:53

Seems to be sung in an American accent as well.

I grew up in Scotland where it always ends, "King of all the wurr-olld!"

totaldiva · 04/12/2017 21:54

*It was my favourite song to sing when i was in primary school.

Mine too! I have such fond memories of it. I've been listening and singing along in the car already this year

BaffledMummy · 04/12/2017 21:55

I’m not a sentiment type but every time I hear it I cry. I have tried singing it as a festive lullaby to the DC a few times and ended up blubbing! What is wrong with me?! I do really love it (gets nostalgic)

Grimmfebruary · 04/12/2017 21:55

I prefer starry night to we three kings. I still haven't recovered from dentention 10 years ago when my friend started bellowing the well known alternative version with one on his scooter, tooting his hooter.

frenchfancy81 · 04/12/2017 21:55

Earth lay sleeping...

4minions · 04/12/2017 21:56

YABU I love it, brings a tear to my eye every year.

MaidOfStars · 04/12/2017 21:57

Ah, I’m not religious not a carol fan but if I had to name one to be a favourite, this would be a contender.

Ilovehamabeads · 04/12/2017 21:57

Earthlings sleeping
Thanks for the laugh Xmas Grin

YouTheCat · 04/12/2017 21:59

Our school sings it very well, with harmonies too.
