Do I hate it or is it the unfortunate effect of every junior school choir in the county murdering it at this time of year?

AND ALL THE ANGELS.....

I love it! My daughter was born last November and it was the only lullaby I sang to her for the first few weeks. My husband hates it as he takes umbrage at the fact that the hills were bright as "hills can't emit light" and also that Jesus is referred to as King of the World Grin

Oysterbabe · 05/12/2017 00:38

It's awesome. Impossible to sing without really giving it some Welly.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/12/2017 00:47

I like We Three Kings the best. Love the dramatic but dirgey tune and the lyrics, all incense and tombs. It's the old goth in me coming out.

Also In The BleakMidwinter, just for the words really.

JessieMcJessie · 05/12/2017 00:50

Ah GrandDesespoir there is nothing like the sound of a Scottish Primary School Class belting out Littul DOOOnkey Littul DOOOnkey and AwAAAY ina a MAAAAnger to make me nostalgic for my childhood Christmases 😀.

Mammyloveswine · 05/12/2017 15:02

Oh I love this! Going go play it now for toddler to experience

Mammyloveswine · 05/12/2017 15:07

Omg I was wrong about the lyrics too... thought it was "when Christ was born, on Christmas day"

Mammyloveswine · 05/12/2017 15:08

I'm also laughing as I teach in Newcastle and the children all say baby "jeeezaaaaz"

Pickleypickles · 05/12/2017 15:12

I have never heard this song. Where has it been??? I feel like ive been deprived of something in my primary years Xmas Sad

calamityjam · 05/12/2017 15:17

I'm still desperately seeking a decent recording (i.e. a good children's choir) of this because it's maybe my all-time favourite Christmas carol! It's utterly lovely.

(Though now I will always hear "earthlings"...!)

juddyrockingcloggs · 05/12/2017 16:03

Ahhh it's my favourite! Me and little boy have been singing it on a night! I am gonna be using earthling now for sure though!

yawning801 · 05/12/2017 16:09

I have fond memories of my junior school going "And all the angels saaaaang for him, the bells of heaven raaaaang for him."

(Bold indicates screaming)

Victorianmirror · 05/12/2017 16:14

I literally can't hear or sing this song without crying. What's wrong with me?! It must reach deep into my childhood psyche or something?

choirconflicted · 05/12/2017 17:10

he takes umbrage at the fact that the hills were bright as "hills can't emit light"

Grin

A Scottish friend of mine says her little ones sing about a wean in a manger Grin

I've never heard it. Is it a new one?

Oysterbabe · 05/12/2017 17:55

I sang it at school more than 30 years ago.

Oysterbabe · 05/12/2017 17:58

Written in 1964 apparently.

juddyrockingcloggs · 05/12/2017 18:06

My husband hates it as he takes umbrage at the fact that the hills were bright as "hills can't emit light"

I hate 'I can sing a rainbow' for a similar reason... 'listen with your eyes listen with eyes'.... NO. You cannot listen with your eyes.

BishopstonFaffing · 05/12/2017 18:09

Kid I worked with sang "and all the Asians sang for him"

I have never heard this song before and I have had 7 children go through primary school. How have I managed to miss it?

bookworm14 · 05/12/2017 18:46

I had completely forgotten this song and had a rush of nostalgia when I found it on YouTube! Brought a festive tear to my eye. Thanks OP!

BackforGood · 05/12/2017 21:25

Love Rat a Tat Tat. Haven't hears it sung for a few years now. Sad
