Do I hate it or is it the unfortunate effect of every junior school choir in the county murdering it at this time of year?

AND ALL THE ANGELS.....

10 years ago when my friend started bellowing the well known alternative version with one on his scooter, tooting his hooter.

More years ago than I care to remember, it was

We four Beatles of Liverpool are
John in a taxi, Paul in a car,
George on a scooter, tooting his hooter,
Following Ringo Starr.

SprogletsMum · 04/12/2017 22:00

I love this. I think it made a reappearance in mid October here Grin
I don't know what it is about children singing Christmas songs but they make me tear up every time.

Pygmypuffhunt · 04/12/2017 22:00

Ah-I love this one-especially when sung by a group of reasonably tuneful, enthusiastic children!
I like most Christmas carols though

TammySwansonTwo · 04/12/2017 22:16

Huh. I was a classically trained singer in my (otherwise misspent) youth and I've been part of a million Christmas concerts and I've never heard this song. How bizarre.

mama4321 · 04/12/2017 22:19

Written by Joy Webb member of the Salvation Army - a friend of my parents.

mama4321 · 04/12/2017 22:20

And yes, much as I like it, it goes too low and too high to easily sing well.

YouTheCat · 04/12/2017 22:21

Every year, my dd returns to her old primary school (where I work) for the Christmas singsong. It's always a good start to the festivities. The teachers' choir sang Gaudete last year. We have a bit of a reputation for singing as a whole school though not me as I sound like a warthog with asthma who can't sing .

Ketzele · 04/12/2017 22:26

Noooo I LOVE it - nothing says Christmas like my children cheerfully murdering and me weeping snottily as they do so.

Ketzele · 04/12/2017 22:27

Murdering THAT SONG, I should have said.

Or each other.

Nothing else, I promise.

FlowerPotMum · 04/12/2017 22:28

My youngest has been screeching the chorus all week in preparation for the annual carols at school.
One of my favorites -just-. Little donkey makes blub!

sagamartha · 04/12/2017 22:35

It's the one song I love to hear sung in a school.

Well that and Little Donkey.

And possibly Away in a manger.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 04/12/2017 22:35

I'd never heard this until I saw dc1 in their first nativity play at school and I've loved it ever since. It's not may favourite Carol, but does come a very close second and yes, it always brings tear to my eye.

Hiphopopotamus · 04/12/2017 22:42

@mama4321 just PM’d you!

missmapp · 04/12/2017 22:45

Rat a tat tat is soooo much worse

IncyWincyGrownUp · 04/12/2017 22:53

I prefer these songs.

My youngest has been belting out the chorus of something called upsy daisy angel, or some such bollocks. He was muttering darkly about not liking one of the songs though, though he’s refusing to share because it’s just that bad. The daft sod is 5! I think he’d enjoy a proper 1980’s CofE school carol concert. He’d enjoy just standing there and SINGING ALL THE SONGS LOUDLY!

BackforGood · 04/12/2017 23:00

I quite like it. It is quite a good choice for children's voices, I think.

tapdancingmum · 04/12/2017 23:08

I run a pre school and all the FB pages are talking about Upsy Daisy Angel for nativities this year. I looked at it and decided my lot were too little for it and, boy, am I glad after listening to the songs. They are so wordy and high.

Though we do sing 'starry night' as the local school come to watch and can sing with us.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 04/12/2017 23:24

It was Easy Cheesy Nativity last year

littlemisscomper · 04/12/2017 23:29

I never heard it til the nativity last year. I thought it was beautiful, but I find the local children in Cornwall have much nicer singing voices than the kids in Hertfordshire where I was brought up.

scrivette · 04/12/2017 23:29

Ahh this song is meant to be sung by completely out of tune reception children!

Kitsandkids · 04/12/2017 23:38

Aww, I love this song.

My 8 year old proudly sang it to me the other day to show he knows it by heart and my 9 year old joined in with the accompanying 'sang for him' bits. I could have cried. It was so cute!

WorraLiberty · 04/12/2017 23:44

Oh I love it Blush

Thanks for posting the Youtube link DrMadelineMaxwell

That was a blast from the past now my boys have grown up.

Sashkin · 04/12/2017 23:46

Little Donkey always bothers me. Why does it tell the donkey to follow the star? The star is meant to be following them! They’ll end up going in circles...ConfusedConfused

Sashkin · 04/12/2017 23:48

The wise men followed the star, but Mary and Joseph didn’t... (and Joseph was born in Bethlehem so he ought to know the way to his own parents’ house. Actually why didn’t his parents put them up? Is this another MIL problem?)

CheeriosEverywhere · 04/12/2017 23:52

I've never even heard of it.
