Hi, so I was kicked out my in laws with my partner and 6 month old today. Went to the local homelessness place, and they discussed everything tried to put me off saying they could offer me a house on the other side of the country. I went ahead, and they asked of there was anywhere I could stay until Wednesday.. so I said I could stay with my brother (on his sofa) he has a wife and 2 kids in a 2 bedroom. They said this was fine.
What's going to happen when I go in on Wednesday does anyone know? What shall i do/say to make them take me seriously??
Thank you

These threads make me despair. Honestly, op asks for advice and gets ripped apart by people who have only the vaguest idea of the situation and who make up a chunk of the rest. OP, Worra made a good point about getting your brother to confirm you can only stay for a certain period of time.

I was actually homeless with children once. If the OP decides to come back and this is a genuine situation, she needs to take advice from professionals and support agencies who know the lettings policy specifically for the area she lives in. There’s advice on here which is useless if it doesn’t apply to her area and how the Council house people and priorities them.

Calm down TrinitySquirrel. Watch your blood pressure.

No op you NEED to go back or call the out of hours number and say you can't go where you'd planned to until Wednesday and that they NEED to put you in a b&b or hotel NOW! They have a legal responsibility to house you. Right now.

TheHungryDonkey · 04/12/2017 18:44

This is such shit. They might not have a legal duty to house them.

There’s some proper know all’s in this thread! Have a bit of compassion people!! Regardless of back story the end result is the same!
I hope you get sorted out OP.
I work full time. If I lost my house I wouldn’t have a friend with a spare room. I don’t have any savings to book myself in to a hotel. Not everyone does!!

The council may have said come back Wednesday as they have tenants moving out of council emergency accomodation on this day.

To everyone saying they should private rent, it isn't that simple your salary has to be a multiple of what you earn, which for self employed isn't easy, then there is deposit and furniture etc. I don't agree that people should just be give a council.house, but I do think people need help in this day and age.
