I accidentally didn't pay in a shop today.

In mitigation (though I think it would count in a court), I'm highly stressed.

So I went through the self scan thing and it kept asking for approval because I was buying paracetamol. I paid no heed, cashier came and scanned them for me. Then I needed a bag, So she had to do that for me too. Last was the machine telling there was something undedected on the belt. I walked out and ignored the machine because it is forever going on at me.

Got to bus-stop, checked for wallet. Eh. I didn't have it. So if I had been caught doing this stressful thing, it's not as if I forgot to pay, (which I did) as I didn't even have the means to pay. They'd have thought it was pure theft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wallet is here at home. It was only £4, but Jesus I need to recover my senses.

That sound like a really nice thing to do - a couple of times when I have been stressed I drove off without paying for petrol- the police rang me! Take care of yourself

4forksake · 04/12/2017 05:54

Am I the only one thinking there seems more to this post than just forgetting to pay for a few items in £land. Every post the OP seems to mention the not paying as as an incidental to something else (mainly forgetfulness). If you feel you've got an issue with your memory OP, go to the doctors. It might be anxiety, medication, depression, stress or in this instance having been sedated (maybe not a great idea to go out on the bus when you've just been sedated), but if this is ongoing or you feel it's an issue (which seems to what you're post is screaming out), seek help!

WitchesHatRim · 04/12/2017 05:55

I didn't break the bloody law. I forgot to friggin pay!

Yes you did. There are mitigating circumstances, as you say however the result is the same. You have goods you didn't pay for.

However I doubt the store would do anything about such a small amount.

Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 05:57

Maybe my forgetfulness is getting to me here, but where else have I written about forgetting anything?

OP posts:
Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 05:59

Breaking the law implies intent and even knowledge of your crime. If I didn't know, I didn't know. It's that simple.

4forksake · 04/12/2017 06:01

Not sure who the last 2 posts were directed at OP but this is one of your posts about forgetting something

"Another thing I do, when cashiers package things up nicely, is just walk off until they say 'eh that's 58 pounds'"

Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:03

MrsDeerheart, my DDad once left a petrol station with the pump wire? still in his vehicle. He pulled the whole petrol pump stand thingy out of the ground. Perhaps it runs in the family!

Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:06

Ok. 4forksake.

In my little world, when you go to pay, you go to pay. You're focused on paying. When I get distracted by either machines or people talking to me, I forget to pay.

rainbowstardrops · 04/12/2017 06:13

I was going to suggest putting the equivalent £4 in a charity tin instead but I see you’ve just said you’ll give it to a homeless person. Conscience cleared!
I certainly wouldn’t go back to a large store for £4 as I’d be too embarrassed.
Mistakes happen, don’t worry Smile

4forksake · 04/12/2017 06:14

Actually if you re read my post I'm not focussed on paying, I'm suggesting you might need help, even if just to establish why the forgetfulness is happening. However you're the only person who can determine this.

Bumdishcloths · 04/12/2017 06:18

Please tell me this isn't another health anxiety post in disguise? 😩

WitchesHatRim · 04/12/2017 06:26

No it isn't.

BishBoshBashBop · 04/12/2017 06:30

Another thing I do, when cashiers package things up nicely, is just walk off until they say 'eh that's 58 pounds'

Hmm
Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:32

Health anxiety? As long as I'm alive, I've been absent-minded. Usually not criminally so, as some suggest.

OP posts:
Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:34

And I had just come out of hospital the day before for something entirely not related to my brain functioning!

OP posts:
Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:37

As far as I know being absent-minded is neither criminal Hmm, a medical condition, nor a condition that needs treating.

OP posts:
4forksake · 04/12/2017 06:41

Think I've stepped into a parallel universe Hmm

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/12/2017 06:41

Leaving shops without paying for something is. From your posts this is coming across as not a one off!

Butterfr33 · 04/12/2017 06:44

@Whoyagonna You're digging yourself a hole here. What you did was accidental, but still theft and you did break the law.

Being absent minded isn't criminal but if that causes you to commit a crime then it's not a valid excuse.

"Sorry police officer that I ran over and killed a person, I'm very absent minded and was away with the fairies".. Somehow I don't think that's acceptable and won't wash with the authorities.

LunarGirl · 04/12/2017 06:48

Op, I think what @4forksake is getting at (correct me if I'm wrong) is that your posts seem to have an undertone of you being genuinely concerned that there is something wrong with your memory. You have mentioned dementia multiple times, you do seem to keep pushing the point that your memory is awful. I read 4forksake's posts as concerned and asking if perhaps you should speak to your gp if you are worried about your memory.

Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:48

Jesus Christ but you're all a bunch of loonies.

OP posts:
Bumdishcloths · 04/12/2017 06:49

You've dropped potential dementia into several posts, hence my asking.

Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:50

This has gone from me forgetting to pay the £4 at the machine to me now running over someone and killing them.
I can only laugh.

OP posts:
Whoyagonna · 04/12/2017 06:50

Bumdish - ever hear of a joke?

OP posts:
4forksake · 04/12/2017 06:51

Lunar - exactly that Smile
