Aibu to disown dd if she responds to one more of my questions with "Nah mate".

Seriously, teach me to speak roadman so I can embarrass my 14 year old dd

OP posts:
WombOfOnesOwn · 03/12/2017 21:27

Fascinating. About half of this, we have in the US, and the other half is totally new to me.

Eagerly awaiting the import of "peng."

wellyclad · 04/12/2017 01:58

What about “squad goals” and “eyebrows on point”

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 04/12/2017 02:04

"Korean Billy"? "Roadman"?

These sound like my DH's mates down the building site! Grin

PerspicaciaTick · 04/12/2017 02:45

"salty", "pure" and "beef" - lots of beef.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/12/2017 03:24

I love all of this. Makes me homesick for London. DD1 is caught in weird slang no mans land between her old English friends and her new Canadian ones. I don’t think they say innit here Grin

youokayhun · 04/12/2017 03:29

PLEASE chuck her a packet of fruitellas (or has to be those specifically) and tell her they're a "bad man sweet blud"!!! And if she don't get it (it's a reference from the film anuvahood) tell her it's because she's not a roadman so bloody well stop it!!!!

youokayhun · 04/12/2017 03:32

Also look up "doc brown - slang 101" - you can thank me later and I'm gutted to not be a fly on the wall if you repeat any of it to her!

DoctorTwo · 04/12/2017 07:24

Where you at homeslice That is the funniest thing I've seen in weeks.

SoupDragon · 04/12/2017 07:41

I daren't tell DS2 about the homeslice love 😂 I loved the text so much I kept a screeenshot of it.

For context, he is well spoken, polite and privately educated. Thankfully he only talks like that via text or as a joke (and even then he does it in his normal anonymous slightly post voice)

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 04/12/2017 07:48

Homeslice is great.

'Whatever' is Californian and has been around decades. 'Whatever, loser', with the accompanying hand movements, was around when I was young, and we're not going to think about how many years have passed. Wink

Actually living in South London, within easy reach of several Chicken Cottages, I am loving the idea of what I'd assumed was local teen talk all over the small towns of the UK.

LaContessaDiPlump · 04/12/2017 07:54

I love homeslice! And I'm usually the one saying 'Whatevs' here Grin

MorrisZapp · 04/12/2017 08:01

Cash me outside, how bow da?

Actually, there's a very pointed 'whatever' in the Muppet Christmas Carol, which was made in 1992.

AdalindSchade · 04/12/2017 08:19

Something which is allowed. Nothing to do with Halal though. Your mum saying you can go to a party...it’s a halal ting

That's literally what halal means. Allowed.

Xtrabroken · 04/12/2017 08:25

Dc favourite is to say 'what you chattin' if they disagree with something I've said. If I had said that to my parents I would have been on my arse.

EmilyChambers79 · 04/12/2017 08:26

Homeslice?!

Sounds like something off the Gregg's menu!

Sensimilla · 04/12/2017 08:46

I actually like this way of speaking. I'd be happier my kids speaking like this, than a plum in mouth nowhere accent

SavageBeauty73 · 04/12/2017 09:06

I live in North London. My 12 year old boys use wasteman/roadman, fam blud. Makes me giggle. The funniest was one of them said man needs food as he was sucking his thumb and cuddling his soft toy he's had from birth 😂😂

My incredibly well spoken 15 year old daughter often texts me 'what's up homeslice' but it's a complete joke. She's really embarrassed of her brothers lingo.

AdalindSchade · 04/12/2017 09:16

Wtf is homeslice? Does it mean mum?!

sinceyouask · 04/12/2017 09:18

If ds1 addresses me as fam or g one more time I'm going back to my 90s teen way of speaking and will do so in public where his friends can hear.

sinceyouask · 04/12/2017 09:21

Also if he keeps referring to the police as "da feds" or "da 12" he is going to need to call them himself and ask them to protect him from his demented mother.

SavageBeauty73 · 04/12/2017 09:23

Da Feds 😂😂 my boys say it too.

speakout · 04/12/2017 09:24

I've never heard any of these expressions and I have two teenagers . Don' live in the SE though.

Haggisfish · 04/12/2017 09:31

I’m midlands. Well established here. Man’s not hot innit...
