Help settle a debate.

Best British accent for me is northern Welsh. especially in men but I'm also a sucker for Geordie and a nice light brummie.

no you said there was no difference...:)

foodfrax · 03/12/2017 13:46

Take Ed Sheeran for example - would you guess where he was from? I doubt most people would from his accent.

crazycatgal · 03/12/2017 13:56

@DullAndOld Can you not read? I said MLE in my post but also used the term Jafaican because that's what previous posters called it. It's also not racist to not like that way of speaking - there are lots of white people who speak like that and there are lots of black people who don't.

Auldspinster · 03/12/2017 13:57

The Edinburgh accent varies a lot. I'm fairly well spoken but identifiably scots whereas Patrick Grant from the Great British Sewing Bee comes from less than 2 miles away from me and his accent is pure RP

PumpkinSquash · 03/12/2017 14:00

Definitely Scottish!

hevonbu · 03/12/2017 14:00

They're all OK, it depends on the person who is using it. If it's an unbearable person, their accent too is quite unbearable. It's an additional advantage if I understand the accent...

gillybeanz · 03/12/2017 14:01

I'm in Lancashire, but not originally from round here.

I like the northern accents in general, except Yorkshire.
But that's only there to keep the wind, rain and snow from Lancs anyway Grin

My favourite is Geordie, so warm.

Either very strong Welsh or super super posh.

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 14:19

" Can you not read? I said MLE in my post but also used the term Jafaican "

yes well it was a bit stupid to dismiss this one accent as 'incorrect' when that is essentially what all accents and dialects are. Best to avoid the term 'jafaican' if you don't want to sound racist.

treaclesoda · 03/12/2017 14:32

From the poster who said it was no big deal if people refer to Irish accents as British. Ok, so not racist, but certainly insensitive.

PyrexDishes · 03/12/2017 14:40

Irish. Smile

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 14:46

treacle i did not say it was 'no big deal' I said it was understandable considering how many Brits have Irish relatives, which confuses them...

QuopQuop · 03/12/2017 14:47

Birmingham or Manchester!

treaclesoda · 03/12/2017 14:49

I don't buy that excuse. Loads of Brits have Australian and American relatives but they seem to be able to remember that they're not British.

woollychimp · 03/12/2017 14:49

I like a country accent - love Lance's out of the Detectorists - dunno what precise accent it's supposed to be ... Suffolk?

Also some Welsh accents - if any one watched Utopia there was a Welsh woman in that and i loved the way she said 'Utopia'.

Also some Scottish accents.

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 14:52

lol treaclesoda, Ireland is a touch closer than Australia, in fact it is in the same geographical archipelago, is it not? lol.

The population exchange has been massive over the last 100 years. Approx 25 per cent of Brits have an Irish parent or grandparent. Therefore if someone gets confused, cut them a little slack, eh?

CastielIsMyAngel · 03/12/2017 14:54

I’m a Geordie so kind of bored hearing it all day long, I do love an Irish accent thigh

Xmaspost · 03/12/2017 14:59

North Wales for me (my DH is from that area)! Looking forward to visiting there for a few days over the holidays Smile

runwalkrun · 03/12/2017 15:01

I love a Scottish accent.

buggerthebotox · 03/12/2017 15:17

What does MLE stand for?

I like the way Joanna Lumley speaks. I dislike the southern/eastern English accent where people kind of swallow their vowels and speak through their noses. Is that Estuary?

I love a Geordie accent too. Reminds me of some Welsh accents.

esk1mo · 03/12/2017 15:23

i love a Birmingham accent!

crazycatgal · 03/12/2017 15:35

@DullAndOld Again - read my post. I said that I also used the term jafaican because that's what previous posters had used. If you want to be picky then scroll down and have a go at everyone that didn't use the term MLE and only said jafaican.

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 15:42

I am not 'having a go' I was just pointing it out. I know you were only repeating what others had said, my comment was not aimed solely at you. However I cba to scroll through and see who else said it, I have other stuff to do you know..
Anyway I am sure you take my point, just don't take it personally.

TroysMammy · 03/12/2017 15:46

I like a West Country/Bristol area accent. It doesn't make me go weak at the knees but I find it lovely.
